Germany without the ball aren't very impressive, but Canada allow them to have enough of the ball that it's not been detrimental to Hrubesch's plans so far. It's a 4-3-3 with Popp seeming to be the one most dedicated to defensive duties as a mid-fielder. And it's seen the team have far more say on proceedings than I felt possible with the team using a 4-4-2. Germany should be in the lead, and need to take their chances. But so far... it's been about what I expected, with Canada's biggest threats coming from deep crosses and direct moments of transition.
Germany's attack has chosen today to turn into the frustrating inconstant mess we typically see in mid-field... great...
0-0 HT. Germany are doing a lot of things well, until it get's to the forwards and everything either wasted or breaks down. Personally, as much as a I like Brand, I feel like a decision needs to be made on her potentially swapping wings with Bühl, or being substituted at HT for Endemann's more reliable/mature decision making and positioning... Gwinn clearly desperate to play a more influential role in this match, is constantly making good runs forward, but finding them missed or wasted by being on the same side of the field as a individualistic Brand. And I feel like the attack would function better today, if a very unsure looking Rauch got the defensive protection from Brand, with Bühl working better with a more adventurous Gwinn.
Knowing the players Hrubesch could have selected for this team, I'm constantly frustrated watching Germany's mid-field trio at this tournament. But today, once again Nüsken is the best player... which is good... but also probably a sign of how mediocre the influence of Minge and Popp have been on this team.. I'm still shocked we haven't seen Popp used as a striker once so far..., but a game like today where Schüller isn't presenting the best sense of assuredness, I keep wondering what this team would look like with Senß, or Lohmann, placed into the mid-field, allowing Popp to return to her striker role. But hey... lets hope Schüller and the attack can get it right during the 2nd half.
Hold on for a little later.I’m surprised Canada hast used yet Viens Lacaisse Grosso & Leon, their in it for the long haul, sooner or later Germany would have respond with subs too
Endemann might be dumb sometimes, but you know exactly what your getting from her, which allows the rest of the team to know what to expect from her. Brand will be elite one day, but her maturity of decision making needs so much more refinement
Ughhhhh Ruach can't defend anything related to 1v1 duels.... wow. Lots of Panicked clearances by other don't help either, but it would be nice to see Ruach do better, damn...
Germany's mid-field is falling to pieces now, and the team keeps getting caught in transition. Subs needed.
HUH!.... Well I said Brand needs to be moved to the left, but seeing it happen with Bühl being removed, wow.
Some of Popp's positioning is suspect, and her passing is completely random, making it a shock to see her the one to stay in this game... Germany's mid-field continues to get worse with every passing minute, and I'm asking where is Senß..? Popp needs to play as a forward, or be removed from this match.
Germany are in TROUBLE.... Hrubesch has got this wrong, and needs to get his mid-field functioning correctly. Nüsken was the best of a bad bunch, and without protection of a mid-field this team will fall apart.
Move Popp to forward ASAP! Get Senß on ASAP! Germany are now effectively a player less with the current shape. Hrubesch has made a HUGE error. Their going to concede... he has to change it back ASAP!
Hrubesch has to wake up.. his team are stretched, have no control over the ball anymore, and need to get a real CM/DM back into his team before Canada's forwards score. They look worse and worse with every passing moment, and it's obvious he has to get Popp out of CM...
Germany are cooked... cooked. They aren't able to posses the ball, can't make tackles, and can't transition on the counter attack. It's almost the exact same scenario as it was Vs the USwnt. Jesus... wake up Hrubesch!
