The last time we played against them was the Arnold Clark Cup 2022. So I hope they haven't used their drones to spy on the German team since then.
We have beaten Canada 3:2 when Hrubesch was the coach in 2018 but the only players remaining are Hendrich, Doorsoun and Schüller.
This is how Germany would look Vs USA.... rigid basic 4-4-2, almost no width This is how Hrubresch would position his players in 2nd half Vs Zambia... dedicated DM, two CM's, and a front 3. Like I thought, but wasn't sure.... Germany did in fact adjust their system late in the first half, eventually seeing Bühl Minge, and Popp gradually come to life during the 2nd half. Some of the passing simply wasn't good enough to release forwards in the final 3rd, but we got to see Minge, Nüsken, Popp, actually working together, with Bühl's positioning significantly higher than it has been in the first two group games too.
These two having a 45 min heat map revealing some more insight into the negative aspects of the 4-4-2/4-2-4, where Brand (and Bühl) see's her starting position closer to mid-field, unable to effect the game as a goal threat wide forward. Here we'd get a 1st half of Brand dribbling the ball a lot but with low levels of effectiveness, rarely entering the oppositions penalty box, compared to Endemann's 2nd half with her taking less touches, having less dribbles, but entering the oppositions penalty box more often. And a lot of this is simply down to Germany adjusting their shape at HT, relying less on individualistic football. Something Hrubesch needs to continue in the next match....
Germany losing to a very beatable USA by 4 goals, in a game they were so bad it could have seen them lose by even more... yeah, I'm going to whine about it. But you coming in here trying to do this after Germany would produce the most comfortable of 2-0 victories Vs Austria during the Euro's quarterfinals, will always be more insufferable than anything I said during the recent defeat Vs USA.... Don't think I'm ever going to forget your goofy ass was in here actively rooting for Germany to lose Vs Austria (every team) during the Euro's...
That’s the game where Austria hit the woodwork three times But rather put up with your endless whiny persona I’ll put you on ignore instead
Germany haven't played well Canada have won all 3 games having built a them Vs the world mentality. So this was always going to be a tough game, but now with a few more intangibles concerning what kind of Germany we actually see...
I saw something saying Schüller has 9 goals in her last 8 wnt matches, continuing her streak of being a consistently impressive goal scorer on this stage of football. But I feel like until she produces important goals for club or country on the platform of a major tournament (semi final/final), she'll never posses the clout of her peers who still receive far more praise for doing less... A forward who's never broken the 20+ barrier in single season league goals, constantly in the shadow of Popp. Is this the moment when Schüller finally receives full recognition as one of the games best female goal scorers...?
Popp was the most prolific german striker in the last decade, eventhough her versatility was a blessing and a curse. The Marozsan / Popp combo never was able to live up to the expectations because of injuries and dumb coaches, but you are right....if Schüller wants to step in the boots of other german strikers that came before, she needs to answer the call...now!!!
I said it before, that I was hoping that Horst would let Endemann play good minutes. Who would you start vs Canada? Brand or Endemann? .
Not that it necessarily matters but Canada is also on a 17 game unbeaten streak having last lost a game in October 2023. Meanwhile, Germany has lost 3 games in that same period of time which is actually not even that bad given how poorly they have been playing overall.
