I remember when players like Julian Green and Gedion Zelalem were getting a load of hype, both ended up with USNT but have done nothing special.

honestly Pep Guardiola overhyped Green which didn't help. Not only was Pep mediocre coach at Bayern but his youth likings were as bad as Flicks's LOL.

USSF and USA fans both celebrated like mad that they got both players. And USA fans got more hyped because Low didn't want him to switch which was reported by USA media. Not getting that DFB is aware of all poaching and player was involved in Bayern 1st....than of course Low would get involved but doesn't mean he had any intention of calling him up to Seniors. That Green went USA tells you DFB offer was YNT only.

I never ever once rated Green, good for him he's playing 1BL next season at 26 years old. That Green is career 2BL player=proof always overrated

Zelalem got hyped as German Fabregas, LOL.

And Zelalem isn't even American, LMAO. USA is #1 country where a LOT of players have non-existant USA connections. Numerous ones only eligible to birth too.

In May 2014, it was reported that Zelalem's father, Zelalem Wolydes, held U.S. permanent residency and intended to apply for U.S. citizenship. If Wolydes gained U.S. citizenship before his son turned 18, then under the Child Citizenship Act of 2000, Gedion would also acquire U.S. citizenship and become eligible to represent the United States internationally. He would also be able to retain his German passport which allows him to live and work in the European Union without restrictions.[50]

The Washington Post reported that Zelalem became a U.S. citizen on December 29, 2014, and that Zelalem had applied for an expedited U.S. passport.[51] After Zelalem received his citizenship, Sunil Gulati, head of U.S. Soccer, revealed that the board for U.S. Soccer had started the process to allow Zelalem to become eligible to play for the U.S. national team.[6][7] Due to a FIFA rule designed to prevent players from naturalizing to and representing nations to which they lack ties, Zelalem was subject to waiting a minimum of five years before he could start to represent the United States. Gulati stated U.S. Soccer filed for an exception, since Zelalem attended middle school in the United States.[52] He was approved to play for the United States and was added to the United States squad for the 2015 FIFA Under-20 World Cup on May 13, 2015.[53] He made his debut against Australia in an under-20 friendly match on May 19, 2015, which the United States won 2–1.

German-Americans have produced nothing so far. Although wait and see on
    Malone, M.Tillman, Sanogo, Downs, etc.

  3. :ROFLMAO:
Remember how they wrote, even before Dest did have a few matches in the Ajax first team, that he would have put Dumfries on the Orange bench if he had chosen for the Orange team. Dest, while not having done anything to mention at that time, was way better than Dumfries.
Dumfries now has either scored or was involved in all of the Euro2020 Orange goals and Europe wide papers write about him as the revelation of the Euro.
What impact had Dest in the sub par Concacaf or what it is called they just ended over there? Non whatsoever.

USA fans take credit for Dest as if they dev him too. Or don't get that his choice was Dutch YNT or USA Senior. No interest to fight for spot so went USA.

a lot of hype just for playing Barca and when he has bad games, they still praise him and blame others.

I'm glad that Bayern move didn't happen, can't defend for a fullback.

Jermaine Jones. I actually was hoping he stayed with DFB , he should be good as the so called 'bad boy/enforcer' role. In 2010-2012 we had Wiese the machine and Grosskreutz in 2014. 2016-now we have Can lol.

but he's not that talented just an agressive physical presence, wouldn't have suited DFB and Can is not good enough either.

USA does love their athletic agressive players though, lol. And I've seen Americans who say Jones was one of best USA players ever, lol.

Yeah, he's not that talented but Germany might need him in an unwanted situation like in that infamous brawl after a match v Argentina 06 hehe.

04 CM Mehdi Loune from Frankfurt U17 is flip flopper.

goes dfb u16 than Morocco U17 than DFB U17 and now Morocco u20.....so Morocco lured him playing him up 3 age groups, LMAO.

Mehdi Loune from the U17 of Eintracht Frankfurt will take part with the U20 national team of Morocco in the “Arab Cup U20 2021”, which will be held in Egypt from June 20th to July 6th.

Schick is a Germanic surname, however there's not much detail available on what extent does he have German roots. From my understanding, he and his family are pretty assimilated into Czech culture. The surname probably comes from an ancestor of at least a few generations back.

There's several players from countries like Czechia and Hungary that have German sounding surnames but it could also be an Austrian connection as those countries were part of the Austro-Hungarian empire.

I recall it said that Arp has Swedish ancestry and Serra Italian but so ingrained in Germany that its more distant.

Europe is almost like one big country, very easy to move. No need for planes or boats (short distances).

famous Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien is German, family moved to UK 1770s. Recall 1st time saw his name......that's NOT British, LOL.

I've confused numerous Austrian players for Germans as a lot of them play in German Youth Leagues.

I think someone recently updated Serra's profile on Wiki lol and it now says he has distant Sardinian descent, an Italian island in the Mediterranean.

There's a lot of players of distant Polish descent who have been assimilated for a few generations especially people from the Rhine-Ruhr region and Berlin area.

For names, there's also ones of immigrant descent but it just sounds German-ish like (Koray) Günter, (Niklas) Süle, and (Sinan) Kurt.

Already covered before, but in terms of foreign players with more evident German ancestry that come to mind there's guys like Griezmann, Kamil Glik, and Alison. Lesser known but there's Alexander Scholz from Denmark but has German parents, and Colin Rösler the son of coach Uwe Rösler.

lol about Serra, I've never went on his wiki page until now but seems like link is from Dec 2020.

Sule I thought was German but he's supposedly Hungarian and Turks thought he was Turkish, lol.

Koray is Turkish but Gunter seems more German. Numerous Germans have Gunter, weird. Sinan is Turkish/Arabic but Kurt isn't his mom is German though.

Kurt is a male given name of Germanic origin. It is sometimes confused with Curt, which is more aptly related to the Anglo-Norman name Curtis. The names Kurt, Cord, Curd, Cort and Kort originated as short forms of the Germanic Konrad or Conrad, depending on geographical usage, with meanings including counselor or advisor. It is also a Turkish word, meaning wolf.

reminds me that Schalke's 03 CM Elias Kurt is German-Moroccan. Does he even look Moroccan?????

Not as high profile but other Czech players through the years I've seen with Germanic names are Josef Husbauer, Michael Lüftner, and Tomas Wagner.

Hungary seems to have quite a few in their current NT selection too with Kleinheisler, Janos Hahn, Szabolcs Schön and Andras Schäfer

The Russian also had few German Neustaedter,Rausch and Beck although the latter represented DFB. Leno is also qualified to play for Russia but his surname is quite unique for a German.

    also Anton of Stuttgart
Anton was born in Olmaliq in the former Soviet Republic of Uzbekistan to Russian-German parents. When Anton was two years old, his family moved to Germany as a late repatriate, where he grew up in the Hanover district of Mühlenberg. In the course of the resettlement, he changed his first name from Vladimir to Waldemar. In addition to German, he also speaks Russian.

Since Anton has not yet played for an senior national team, a change of association is still possible. He can basically choose between three national teams: Russia, as his parents and grandparents lived as Russian-Germans in the Soviet Union, Uzbekistan, his country of birth, and Germany, where he grew up from the age of two.
