The stadium capacity already rose to 60.800 (Bayern match) or even more as the redevelopement is nearly completed (June 2004).

I guess the BVB match next weekend won't be sold out (maybe 55.000-60.000) Of course the warm weather an Hertha's relegation battle could jack up this number.

Yea, but still it is disappointing to see that the biggest city in Germany have attendences in the 30-45000 range, which is around the less than far smaller cities like Dortmund and Schalke.

57,000 in Hertha vs. Dortmund, good for once....guess you guys were right.

As for the Ruhrarea comment, you have many more teams in that area, too.

You have Borussia Dortmund, Schalke 04, 1. FC Koln, Borussia Monchengladbach, plus several big 2nd Division clubs like Alemmania Aachen and MSV Duisburg and Arminia Bielefeld?. You can spread the 10,000,000 almost evenly. In Berlin, you have big team in Hertha and a little, relegated team in Union. If Germany is such a hotbed for soccer, why isn't it's capital at the forefront or at least near it? I feel that it is well behind Munchen and the Ruhr in Germany as far as support goes.

Cologne, Mönchengladbach and Aachen are in the Rhine-Valley not the Ruhrarea and Bielefeld is more East-Westfalia then Ruhrarea. Also Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund have fans all over Germany, Schalke for example has many fans in Berlin. But you forget Bochum and Rot-Weiß Essen.

Berlin is special for all kind of sports. They want to have topteams which play for championship other (bad) teams are not interesting. Berliner have this spleen.

You mean the singing, flags and other stuff?
This is paid by the fans themselves.

    Fine links.

There're other links, but not all are allowed to make them open, some companys try to make money with that.

But nice what you all find for free. Really.
How or how ever, I'll show some on my side next time.

Another thing while the German attendance is not so high their could is, a lot of traditional clubs with a lot of fans play in lower leagues.

E.g. Cologne, Frankfurt, Dresden, Leipzig .....

I wonder why Spain and Italy which claim to have the best leagues aren't more attended.

Because Bundeslig is much more competitiv. In Spain an Italy you have on one hand 3-5 top teams challenging for the championship, but some crap teams on the other hand.

In Bundesliga you never know, if the last beats the first. It has more teams on a similar level.

thats true. under the 4 big leagues of europe the bundeslige is the most balanced.
that, the good attendance and the new stadiums are the advantages the bundesliga has IMO.

Anybody wrote it before, but it's true.
They`ve 3 or 5 top teams and the rest doesn't matter.

And the rest don't have the stadium capacity and not the fans.
Both results from: They are not matter.

E.g. Spain: How much teams are known from this league?
Ask yourself how much teams you can count without a look on the table.
Italy, France, .... are the same.

And the smaller clubs in this countries will never get a chance to play at top, or the CL, or when get a chance to play international UEFA-Cup or so, they get eliminated by German or English clubs.

A very good example is Italy.
The small clubs didn't have the money to play the whole season, they strike, what did the big ones, they give the small ones the money to play that they have opposites.

    This is no joke.
