What's to discuss? He failed to lead his party. Period.

Good. I hope Daschle steps down in the Senate. We need new leaders, ones with vision.

Hopefully that idiot Terry McAuliffe will resign as the DNC Chairman as well. I can't believe he's trying to spin this horrible defeat in a good way.

Gephardt plans to run for President in 2004. Democratic congressmen have told him secretly that if he wants their vote he'll have to guarantee them he won't run for president, hence his decision.

Time for a change, rip off all these boneless 'leaders' from the congressional leader positions.

Democratic party is ruined by them, for sure.

    Door, Ass, understand?

I hear Gephardt will retire from politics to spend more time with his family, help OJ find the real killer(s) on many a golf course and most importantly to him, find those bastards who stole his eyebrows.

This Nancy Pelosi-Martin Frost race ought to be a joy. The Democrats are probably going to shift back into Walter Mondale land. I don't know why they think that will help, at least at the Presidential level. Who was the last true dyed-and-true liberal to hold the presidency? Since the McGovernites took over the party, there hasn't been one. Maybe LBJ, but I would say Truman.

Last time I checked, the speaker of the house was not the Democratic nominee.

The house is the only place within national elections that Democrats can openly embrace the liberal half of their party.

Besides, considering that less than 30% of Democratic voters are white males, its about time that white males weren't running the party.

So go Pelosi, its your birthday, its your birthday, its your birthday...

Soon as the liberals take control of the Dems and start winning elections as a result, left wing wackos like me will finally have their opinions taken seriously.

    Smash the Senate!

After how the dems went down in flames Tuesday, how can he put together a credible run for the White House. Besides, he was pretty awful when he ran in '88.

McAuliffe is first on my list. I told my dad (a lifelong Republican) when he was named DNC head that it was a huge mistake. He's not a leader and never has been. He's a fundraiser.

The Democrats are having a crisis of leadership, mostly because the leaders aren't leading. Gephardt wasn't even on the radar before the elections, when he should have been fighting tooth and nail to win 6 lousy seats.

Gephardt being the Democratic nominee for the presidency in 2004 is the ultimate Bushie wet dream.

He was probably going to resign after the election unless the Dems took back the majority (meaning if they gained a couple seats, he was going to resign). He wants to run for President.

I'm conflicted on the Frost-Pelosi race. Frost is closer to my politics than Pelosi, but it seems the House is a good place to have a bit of a more liberal leadership. The House traditionally is supposed to be more partisan than the Senate, so maybe have the more liberal and vocal Pelosi and then the quiter Daschle in the Senate.

For party leadership, the Dems need to look outside the Congress. Within the Congress, they need to come up with an agenda that they hype in the press (because legislatively, they can't do sh:t) and use the Senate to obstruct the R's agenda.

Personally, I'd like to see Wesley Clark brought in as a democratic spokesman for foreign policy (I'd like to see him become Pres candidate). Let the Congressional dems create the party's domestic agenda. Whoever becomes the spokesman for the party can adopt that.

    Jesus, went down in flames?

What would you have said if they had lost 6 Senate seats, 10 House seats, and broken even on the governorships???

Say what you want about Gephardt, but you can't argue with his success.

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

From the great State of Missouri, the show-me state, where Kansas City, like Dorothy, isn't in Kansas anymore,

it is my pleasure to introduce the next losing candidate for President of the United States:

    Dick Gephardt

*hoping he quits before primaries even start*

If Dick Gephardt is the Democratic nominee for 2004, I'm voting for Bush.

Look, I realize Gephardt would be a lousy candidate, but I can't support Democrats throwing away their votes like this.

Just write in Jack Edwards, instead. Guy needs a job, and all.
