In 1982 George Best finally got to play for his local Irish League club who had once turned him down as a 15 year old. Glentoran FC believed him to be too lightweight to make it as a professional footballer.

Happy 79th birthday to Elton John (pictured at right next to George Best), the English pop star and songwriter whose 33 albums have sold over 300 million copies and spawned over 50 Top 40 hits, but whose passion for soccer led him to purchase a minority - but highly visible - 25 percent stake in the Los Angeles Aztecs in 1976 and usher in an era of rock star glamour that characterized the NASL heyday, and inspired John to also buy his favorite English team, Watford FC, that same year, remaining the club's president through 1987.
