doesn't really seem to do much to send him on his way now seems like a lot of the best candidates would be top MLS guys that aren't going to leave midseason anyways (do not want GGG)
I would have a hard time disagreeing more. Whatever comes next needs *time* to: 1) get into place 2) have the whole management / front office team get together to review *how* they've been lost and *how* they fix it and get folks rowing in the same direction. 3) handle any personnel issues highlighted by friction with #2 4) make a plan for moving forward 5) figure out what players to pursue in what order based on that plan. If that work doesn't start *now*, then it doesn't start until winter. If that work doesn't start until *winter*, next season *can only be* "nobody really knows what we're doing" bullshit like *every season the past 15 years has been*. Get someone in place *now* and make productive use of what the exiting management has turned into garbage time.
Gonna sleep happy tonight with images of a stadium full of folks singing this song during the next match....
I'd love to share the vision, but 95% of the people in the stadium won't know or care about the Fire general manager situation.
JOY to the world! Please accept my heartfelt thanks to all of you who contributed to the Georg Heitz Relocation/Retirement Fund!
but so many of the candidates are currently with teams and aren't available to start now has a front officer person ever switched teams mid-season in MLS? why limit yourself to currently unemployed guys?
Two letters down, 24 to go! I'll go next! C- Carlos! D- If he retires: Dax McCarty! I think a front office spot in MLS is in his future.
Looking forward to Frank as TD and Nagamura as head coach for the remainder of the season until “suitable” replacements are found.
Even though one is a subset of the other, I appreciate the fix. I can't figure out which is a subset of what?
New thought- Many Euro clubs have BOD> Manager > Sporting Director & Coach management hierarchy. Fire currently has an Owner > Sporting Director > Technical Director & Coach structure. Will this same structure continue going forward? I am guessing that the player acquisition duties will be moved.
If "player acquisition duties will be moved" that is fine as long as they are NOT moved to any of us. We ALL would fail at that job. Maybe not Georg Heitz level of failure, but at least Nelson Rodriguez level of failure.
LOL. Not suggesting that! It is a very difficult and very important job. So important that it probably merits an organizational structure featuring a full-time position solely for this function and the scouting network.
I hopped on here to confirm what my son told me, breaking the news for me on my cell by text. Happy happy joy JOY! Heitz had plenty of years to over spend on underperforming talent and never make the playoffs. I'd say that it was well time for him to go. Maybe Joe asked him to go or maybe he knew he was in over his head and bowed out. Either way my prediction in the Roster thread is coming to pass. On the one hand I wanted to see at least players LEAVING during the summer transfer window but with nothing coming in that at least means a few guys can play out their contracts and clear the deck so whomever is incoming will have 2 Designated Player slots to fill as well as clear some dead wood and move some prospects up the food chain. I am truly grateful for this day! Go Fire!
lol, even the smartest of us all (me, obviously) with the most experience watching the game (me, obviosuly) who has played at the highest level (also me - BarnBurners Indoor Soccer League baby!) would fail a million times harder, faster, and worserer than NRod did. You might think to read through any of the game threads to confirm this, or any of the career/deathwatch threads to see proof that we couldn’t even be as good at the job as the absolute worst person to ever do it was, but honestly, I just need to look no further than the Optimsim threads to see that we’re all a bunch of morons who would fail miserably handling almost any full time role with our beloved club that requires critical analysis. I hate to say it, honestly, but I’d almost prefer it because 1. It would prove to some, but not all, of us that it’s not an easy job and 2. At least we wouldn’t have endless discussions about whether or not the person cared about the club’s history/legacy or whether or not them caring about those things matter. For a little while at least.
Man, it's been awhile since I posted. The one good thing about GGG is his ability to recruit (dual Nats for the USMNT). I'm not sure if this translates to MLS, but would be good if it did. We need to have a recruiter in that TD role and a very hefty checkbook to lure anyone to our dumpster fire.
It appears he developed good relationships with young players. ( Of course, today you never know if what you read is true or not.)
