Then Nottingham Forest's Andrew Reid was sent off after 32 minutes when he took a free-kick before the referee had blown his whistle

Is taking a free kick too soon a bookable offense? I've never seen that before.

Even more puzzleing was the fact that Reid got sent off for something like that, but Stack handled outside the area for a free it says and stayed on. Goes back to that consistency thing with referees.

Up to the ref if wants to book the player, however sending someone off for taking a free early is just nonsense.

Staunton got a 2nd yellow (aka a sending off) a few years ago for taking a free too quickly against Liverpool. The interesting thing was that the ref. had told Staunton not to take the free until he blew the whistle. He then turned around to the Liverpool wall to get them back and while this was happening, a team mate passed the ball to Stan who wellied it against the wall. The ref. assumed that Stan had taken a direct shot, not having seen the pass, gave him a 2nd yellow and early shower.

Obviously, it was later rescinded, but that dopey bastard made Villa play with a man down due to nothing more than sheer incompetence and arrogance. (He never consulted the linesman or 4th official, so convinced was he that Stan was a criminal.)

    And another thing!!!

Don Givens has about as much in common with a football manager as Osama Bin Laden does with a lap dancer.

    Re: sorry about score

No problems about posting the score, just remember maybe someone is taping the match and doesnt want to find out the score until he watches it. One of the long standing rules of bigsoccer.

You can watch the game online on the setanta website, I have no idea the cost (someone mentioned US$7) or the quality.
