He's good but we have better players in the Primavera....I don't think he's ready to play in England second division at all. We'll see. That option price is a bit too low, though.

The championship is a physical league, but it is void of any real technical quality

    Players in so far:

    Alessandro Potenza from Fiorentina
    Giuseppe Biava from Palermo
    Salvatore Bocchetti from Frosinone
    Giandomenico Mesto from Reggina/Udinese
    Tommaso Renzetti from Lucchese
    Francesco Modesto from Reggina
    Andrea Gasbarroni from Parma
    Raffaele Palladino from Juventus
    Davide Di Gennaro from Milan/Bologna
    Abdelkader Ghezzal from Crotone

We also bought halves of Vandenborre and Paro, so we now fully own them. Also, we bought back Fernando Forestieri from Siena, but he'll stay there for another season. Criscito's loan from Juventus was renewed so he'll stay at Genoa next season.

    Players out:

    Cesare Bovo (to Palermo)
    Abdoulay Konko (to Sevilla)
    Marco Borriello (to Milan)
    Fabiano (to Reggina)
    Santos (to Reggina)
    Gaetano De Rosa (contract over)
    Danilo (loan over)
    Wilson (Lugano)

Players we are apparently interested in:

    Maurizio Domizzi (Napoli)
    Dario Dainelli (Fiorentina)
    Luca Cigarini (Parma)
    Kharja (Siena)
    Daniele Cacia (Piacenza/Fiorentina)
    Rolando Bianchi (Manchester City)
    Ruben Olivera (Juventus/Penarol)

    players on their way out:

    Marco Di Vaio
    Julio Cesar de Leon

I think we did great on the market so far...if we really get one between Dainelli and Domizzi (hopefully the former), one midfielder and Rolando Bianchi I'll be extremely satisfied.

Matteo or anyone can I ask what position he plays, he's described as a forward on Genoa website but we have him as midfielder? Will he stand up to the physical side of the game.....Also we bought Alberti from Chievo earlier this season but can't find any Chievo fans with a view on him...anyone else know about him? QPR will have a very Italian flavour next year keep an eye out for us.

    Attacking midfielder/withdrawn forward

I have no idea of how good Alberti is.

    matteo,

do you think bocchetti will be a first-team player next season for you guys, or only on the condition that dainelli doesn't come? Also, what will your attack look like you reckon, maybe a rotation palladino and di gennaro next to gasbarroni behind say, bianchi? How much playing opportunity do you see for di gennaro?

    cheers

    Re: The Official Genoa Thread

I don't know about Bocchetti, if Dainelli comes (but one reliable, experienced central defender will come for sure) I think the only 2 players who will have a safe spot will be him and Criscito, no idea about the third (we play a 3-man defense)....everyone will have his chance....about the attack....we'll se if Bianchi comes (in Russia there are rumors we made an offer for Pavlyuchenko...I doubt it), right now the three likely starters are Palladino-Figueroa-Gasbarroni. I don't know how much playing time Di Gennaro will get....we don't usually play with the classic AM, and apparently we are interested in another seconda punta/esterno (Cerci).

But you know...last year, before the season started, Borriello and Konko were considered bench players at most and many Genoa supporters thought our biggest star would be Papa Waigo ...

    Re: The Official Genoa Thread

yeah, I must say I thought papa waigo was going to be a good player in serie A after seeing him some in serie B, but he was disappointing no doubt. I guess it will be interesting to watch you guys, I think you lot have a legitimate chance to be in the top half even in a stronger serie a than last year, and watching some of the youngsters like bocchetti, criscito, di gennaro, et al should be fun.

I think the Palladino move is the same basis as the Borriello move last season, co-ownership. If he plays well for Genoa then Juve will just get him back.

    Parma, arriva Alessandro Lucarelli
    24.07.2008
Genoa sold the full title of Alessandro Lucarelli to Parma, who reaches his brother Cristiano, making up in Emilia the couple of Livorno.
The rossoblù club points to replace Lucarelli with the viola player Dainelli, but Fiorentina at this time has froze his exit which could re-open at the end of the transfer season.

    Re: The Official Genoa Thread

Yes he's back. His injury sent him off for the end of last season, never the less Genoa bought the other half of Paro from Juve in this summer's transfer market. The midfielder is very well considered by the club and has a great season ahead of him.
