Genoa couldn’t take advantage of Sampdoria’s Ferrero in jail. Guess Samp is using this as a motivation.

    Genoa 0-0 Atalanta

Atalanta had more shots, 17 to 1, but only got 3 on goal. Atalanta had 67 percent of the possession, 73.5 percent of the completed passes, 66.8 percent of the attacks, and 82.3 percent of the dangerous attacks. Atalanta is fourth, they have the second most goals, and it was the second time in 19 games that they did not score.

Genoa completed the first half of the season with no wins and 4 points from 9 home games. They moved 1 point above 19th place Cagliari, who lost at Juventus. Genoa is 2 points behind 17th place Spezia, who has a game in hand, which is tomorrow at second place Napoli. Genoa has 1 win, 8 draws, 10 losses, 11 points, 19 goals scored, and 37 goals allowed.

After a break, Genoa goes to 11th place Sassuolo.

    January 6: Sassuolo 1-1 Genoa

    January 9: Genoa 0-1 Spezia

January 13: AC Milan 3-1 Genoa (1-1 after regulation) in the Coppa Italia Round of 16

Tomorrow: Fiorentina (8th with 32 points from 20 games) vs. Genoa at 8:45 P.M. local/2:45 P.M. USA Eastern

Genoa is 19th with 12 points from 21 games. Last place Salernitana is 1 point behind with a game in hand. Genoa is 4 points behind Cagliari, who has 22 (one more) game played, and 6 points behind Venezia, who played 21 games. Spezia has 19 points, and it was very bad to lose at home to them. Genoa has 2 points from their last 5 games, and they are still winless at home with 4 points in 10 games.

https://www.prosportsdaily.com/Headlines/Article/722985 is titled "Genoa Sack Manager Andriy Shevchenko After Two Months and 11 Games in Charge." He managed a Coppa Italia win, 3 draws, and 7 losses. Genoa is going to their third manager of the season, and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't finish the season. They gave Shevchenko a contract until summer 2024, meaning he was fired over two years early. I'm not singling out Genoa because other clubs do this, but it's ridiculous to give a manager a contract for an amount of time when he will probably be fired first.

    Fiorentina 6-0 Genoa

Fiorentina failed on a penalty kick in the 11th before taking the lead in the 15th. Genoa has 1 win, 9 draws, and 12 losses. They are -25 in 22 games. They are 19th and in the relegation zone 6 points behind Venezia. They are 2 points above Salernitana. Venezia and Salernitana have a game in hand. Genoa hosts 14th place Udinese on Saturday at 3:00 P.M. local/9:00 A.M. USA Eastern.

    Genoa 0-0 Udinese

Genoa had more shots (10 to 2), and more shots on goal (3 to 0). Udinese had a whopping 32 free kicks. Genoa had over double the dangerous attacks (55 to 25). Genoa's Andrea Cambiaso was ejected for two yellows in the 79th, and the second was for unsportsmanlike conduct, so I'm assuming it was for arguing the first yellow. Udinese did not take advantage.

Genoa hasn't won in their last 20 Serie A games, and they have 13 points from 23 games. They have 3 points and 1 goal in their last five games. They are 3 points behind Cagliari, 5 points behind Venezia, and both of them have a game in hand. Cagliari plays tomorrow, and Venezia had a game postponed and will end the weekend with one fewer game than Genoa. Last place Salernitana got a 1 point penalty to make them 3 points behind Genoa. Salernitana has two games in hand, and hopefully they will lose at third place Napoli.

After national teams play, Genoa goes to eight place AS Roma.

    AS Roma 0-0 Genoa

Even after Leo Ostigard was ejected in the 68th, Genoa did not allow a goal, and it became 10 vs. 10 when Nicolo Zaniolo was ejected in the 90+5th. AS Roma had 63 percent of the possession and more shots (23 to 10), but each club had 3 shots on goal. Genoa has 14 points from 24 games, and still only 1 win. They are in 19th. 18th place Cagliairi has 3 more points from 1 fewer game. 17th place Venezia has 4 more points from 2 fewer games. I expect Genoa to be relegated, and their last three games include at third place Napoli and hosting fifth place Juventus.

    Genoa 1-1 Salernitana

Mattia Destro scored in the 32nd, and Salernitana equalized in the 45+1st. The statistics were close. Genoa was unable to win hosting the only club below them, and Genoa has 1 win in 25 games. They have 12 draws, and no other club is in double-digits. They have 15 points and are in the relegation zone by 6 points. Next they go to 17th place Venezia, who has 6 more points and a game in hand. Genoa must win. I don't know if I will post in this topic much if Genoa is in Serie B.

    Venezia 1-1 Genoa

Genoa played their fourth consecutive draw, and they have 1 win in 26 games. They are 5 points behind Venezia, who is in the bottom safe spot, and Venezia has a game in hand. Genoa's next game is hosting second place Inter.

    Genoa 0-0 Inter

Inter had 72 percent of the possession, more shots 21 to 7, and more corner kicks 14 to 0. Genoa is in the relegation zone by 5 points with one more game played than Cagliari and two more games played than Venezia. Genoa now has 14 draws, which is a majority of their 27 games, and their form is five draws. Next Genoa hosts twelfth place Empoli.

https://www.flashscore.com/match/lUbHN8ka/#match-summary/lineups says Criscito was one of Genoa's nine players who missed today's game due to injury. They played a 0-0 hosting Empoli to extend their streak of draws. They gained 1 point on Cagliari, but they are still in the relegation zone by 7 points with 10 points left, and they average 0.64 points per game. Genoa is 4 points behind Venezia, and Venezia will have a game in hand. Genoa is in 19th with 18 points from 28 games, and they must pass two clubs to survive. Last place Salernitana is 3 points behind Genoa and has 2 games in hand. Genoa is in the fifteenth season of their current stint in Serie A.

Not sure if I believe the Criscito injuries.

There are reports in Toronto that they want him to come over to join the MLS club soon!

    Atalanta 0-0 Genoa

Sixth place Atalanta must be disappointed to not have scored in either game against Genoa. Genoa has 2 points in their last 9 games. After losing 6-0 at Fiorentina, Genoa's last seven games have had only 4 goals combined. They were five scorelesss draws and two were 1-1. Genoa is tied for the fewest goals with 22, and last place Salernitana has 22 goals and 2 games in hand. Salernitana is 3 points behind Genoa, and Genoa is more likely to finish last than to survive. Genoa gained 1 point on Cagliari to be in the relegation zone by 6 points. Genoa is 3 points behind Venezia, who has 2 games in hand. Genoa must pass two clubs. If Genoa passes one of Cagliari and Venezia, Genoa can survive by passing Sampdoria, who is 1 point above Cagliari. Genoa is 10 points behind 15th.

    Genoa 1-0 Torino

Genoa's 26 game winless streak, which was tied for the third longest in Serie A history, is over. Genoa has not lost in their last eight games, with seven draws before that game, and Torino has not won in their last eight games. Torino had not lost in their previous nine games against Genoa. Manolo Portanova scored his first senior goal in the 14th. https://www.flashscore.com/match/MHDYnPIA/#/report gave Man of the March to Morten Frendrup, who had the assist. Genoa's Leo Østigård got cards in the 10th and 24th, and it says the second card was because of a dive by Torino, so it is good Torino could not take advantage. Østigård has been ejected from two of his last seven games.

Torino had 73 percent of the possession in each half, but Genoa had more second half shots, 4 to 3. Torino had 81.9 percent of the completed passes, and 76.5 percent of the dangerous attacks, but only 3 shots on goal.

Genoa went from in the relegation zone by 8 points to by 7 points to by 6 points to by 3 points. Genoa passed Venezia for 18th. Flash Score's standings do not use the correct tiebreaker. Both head-to-head games were draws, and Genoa has a better goal differential. However, Venezia has two games in hand, including hosting 16th place Sampdoria tomorrow. Sampdoria is 4 points above Venezia and Genoa, so Sampdoria is not safe. Cagliari is 3 points above Genoa with one game in hand, which is hosting first place AC Milan today. Last place Salernitana is 6 points behind Genoa with three games in hand, including tomorrow at fourth place Juventus. Flash Score does not know when makeup games will be played other than Udinese vs. Salernitana on 30 May a week after the season ends for everybody else. We will see if Salernitana is relegated before that game or if any other club has to wait to know if they survive.

After national teams play, Genoa's next game is at tenth place Verona. Italians will focus in Italy in the World Cup Qualifying playoffs.

Genoa plays at tenth place Verona tomorrow. With a win, Genoa would get out of the relegation zone. Genoa's remaining schedule is hard, with four of their eight games against clubs in the top six. They won at seventeenth place Cagliari, which is good for the head-to-head tiebreaker, and when Genoa hosts Cagliari on 24 April it will be very important.

Genoa lost 1-0 at Verona and 4-1 hosting Lazio. Genoa is 18th with 22 points from 32 games. They played two draws with Venezia and are above Venezia by 3 goal differential, but Venezia has a game in hand. Genoa is 3 points behind Cagliari.

    AC Milan 2-0 Genoa

Genoa has 22 points from 33 games. They need to pass Venezia, who has 22 points from 31 games, and Cagliari, who has 25 points from 32 games. Genoa hosts Cagliari on Sunday 24 April, and if Genoa loses they will need a miracle to survive considering their last four games include hosting fourth place Juventus and at third place Napoli.

    Genoa 1-0 Cagliari

Milan Badelj scored the only goal in the 89th minute to give Genoa their third win in 34 games. Genoa had 56 percent of the possession and more shots on goal 2 to 1. Genoa is still in bad shape, and Salernitana won 2-1 earlier in the day. Genoa needs to pass two of satdium-mate Sampdoria (5 points ahead and hosts Genoa in their next game), Cagliari (3 points ahead of Genoa), and Salernitana (the same amount of points with 1 fewer game than Genoa). Genoa still has to play top four clubs Napoli and Juventus. Salernitana and Cagliari play each other, and Salernitana plays last place Venezia.

Domenico Criscito blew the pk in the 95th. That's probably it for Genoa in the Serie A.

    At least for this year....
