In the Coppa Italia, Genoa went down 2-0 in the 10th minute, Perugia got a red in the 39th, Genoa equalized with an own goal in the 41st, and Yayah Kallon scored in the 87th to win 3-2. The Coppa Italia is down from 78 clubs to 44 clubs. Clubs ninth and worse in Serie A continue to start in the sixth-to-last round, which is the First Round. The Second Round is in December.

Genoa starts the Serie A season at defending champion Inter Milan on Saturday 21 August.

Riccardo Saponara seemed to be glee with revenge after scoring for La Viola.

Guess his time at Genoa wasn’t that great…

    Genoa 3-3 Hellas Verona

Hellas Verona scored in the 8th and led most of the game. They scored in the 39th. Domenico Criscito scored a penalty kick in the 77th and equalized in the 80th. Mattia Destro scored in the 85th to make it three goals in 8 minutes. Hellas Verona equalized in the 90+1st. Both of clubs have 5 points and are tied from twelfth through fifteenth. Juventus and Sampdoria have played 5 games. Hellas Verona (-3) and Genoa (-5) have played 6 games.

Genoa is at last place Salernitana on Saturday at 3:00 P.M. local/9:00 A.M. USA Eastern. Salernitana has 1 point and a -10 goal differential from 5 games. Salernitana is newly promoted after spending 23 consecutive seasons in Serie B or lower.

    Salernitana 1-0 Genoa

Genoa lost to a newly promoted club that enterer in last with 1 point from 6 games, 4 goals scored, and 15 goals allowed. Last season Salernitana was second in Serie B, but their +12 goal differential wasn't special.

    Genoa 2-2 Sassuolo

A Sassuolo player scored in the 17th and 20th. Genoa scored in the 27th and equalized in the 90th. Genoa is 17th with 6 points from 8 games, and they will fall into the relegation zone if Venezia wins hosting Fiorentina. Serie A uses head-to-head, but only after both games are played. If you use goal differential and then goals scored as tiebreakers before head-to-head is finished, Venezia will be -7 if they draw, which will trail Genoa's -6.

Genoa's next game is Thursday at 12th place Torino/

Genoa plays Torino o Friday at 6:30 P.M. local/12:30 P.M. USA Eastern. My previous post was wrong. Venezia did win to move Genoa into the relegation zone. We'll see if they survive on the last matchday for the third time in four seasons. https://us.soccerway.com/teams/italy/genoa-cfc/1276/ has Genoa's schedule, results, and roster with each player's amount of games and goals.

    Torino 3-2 Genoa

Torino scored in the 14th, led the rest of the game, and had better statistics. Genoa is 19th with 6 points in 9 games. 18th place Cagliari will have a worse goal differential than Genoa if they lose at 9th place Fiorentina. Last place Salernitana will pass Genoa if they win hosting 12th place Empoli. Genoa could use a win in their next game, which is at 17th place Spezia.

Genoa has done things that don't normally go together. They have scored in the last 23 home games in all competitions, but they gave up the first goal in their last 7 Serie A home games, and they have 2 draws and 2 losses at home. Domenico Criscito has scored all 4 of his goals in the last 15 minutes or stoppage time. Venezia has 1 more point than Genoa. Genoa's goal differential is 2 better. If Genoa wins, they will pass Venezia to get out of the relegation zone, and they could pass Sampdoria and Spezia. If Genoa doesn't win, they will have 1 win in 11 games and have played consecutive games against bad clubs without winning. After tomorrow, Genoa goes to 11th place Empoli, and then national teams play.

    Genoa 0-0 Venezia

Genoa had 63 percent of the possession, more shots (19 to 6), and more shots on goal (4 to 2). Genoa has 8 points from 11 games, and they remained 1 point behind Venezia. Genoa moved up to 17th and out of the relegation zone. To stay out of the relegation zone, Salernitana can't win hosting first place Napoli, and Cagliari can't win at 13th place Bologna.

    Empoli 2-2 Genoa

Genoa scored a penalty kick for their first lead of the season, which took 12 games. Empoli scored twice, and Genoa equalized in the 89th. Geno had over three times as many shots on goal (7 to 2), and Emploi had over three times as many free kicks (25 to 8). Genoa has three consecutive draws, and passed stadium-mate Sampdoria to get out of the relegation zone. Genoa has 9 points and -7. Sampdoria has lost their last three, and has 9 points and -10. Genoa will fall in the relegation zone in the unlikely event that Salernitana wins at sixth place Lazio, Genoa's next game is hosting fifth place AS Roma, and Salernitana hosts Sampdoria, so Genoa will fall in the relegation zone if they lose.

    Udinese 0-0 Genoa

Genoa had 57 percent of the possession and more combined free kicks and corner kicks (22 to 19). Udinese had more attacks (130 to 102), dangerous attacks (62 to 29), shots (17 to 8), and shots on goal (3 to 2).

Genoa has 1 win, 7 draws, and 6 losses, and is in the relegation zone with 10 points in 14 games. 17th place Spezia is 1 point above, and it will go up to 2 if Spezia draws hosting Bologna, which is 0-0 in the 75th.
