Whoever said that New Zealand played well, they are wrong. They didn't decide to attack until the final minutes and even they really didn't. They played not to lose rather than trying to make it to the next round.

They were also helped that Paraguay has been pretty mediocre. By far the least of the teams of Conmebol. Martino is the Paraguayan/Argie Javier Aguirre. I don't know why he didn't start with Veron but with Julio Cesar Caceres who was beyond crap today. Also their 4 forwards have been terrible. I know they hurt from not having Cabañas but they shouldn't be playing that bad. Haedo Valdez, Cardozo, Barrios and Santa Cruz have been terrible. They can handle the ball, their shooting is worse than the Ghanean players, their decision making subpar and they play without intensity as if they don't want to be there (except Valdez). They subbed in Benitez and in the little time he was there, he was their best forward and the most dangerous. It was a relief seeing him try to dribble. I remember Brailovsky saying how Paraguay wasn't that good and hadn't shown much against Slovakia in Fuera de Juego and Palomo and the other dude trashed him. I want to see what they say now.

i'm most surprised at Santa Cruz's performance

he's definately not the same Roque from when he was at Bayern

he's been looking like Guille out there on the field

New Zealand is going home....after not being defeated at this WC. Drawing with Slovakia on a last minute goal. Drawing with the defending champions. Not bad for an island nation of about 4.5 million people.

Spain MUST win if they want to advance

Honduras was that group's door mat - simple 3 points for Chile, Spain, and next up the Swiss!

ah well, i'm sure we'll see Honduras back on the world stage in about 20 years

Bofo can redeam himself....all he has to do is break guille's foot. He'll become a national hero.

It really is quite sad aguirre can't accept that he's not in good form. The few things he does well, he did poorly against Uruguay.

I do think this is the most talented group of player we've had, at least going forward. I wonder if player selection is aguirres idea or carillos advising. I honestly think we can win if we put our faith in the kids. All they've done is come through for us...but I still believe.

I wish Univision had Zidane and Figo. They have the money I am sure to pay decent analyzers of the game. Instead pregame consists of Despierta America people and that fashion guy.

Wow, that is a nice road to take. We controlled our own destiny and didn't get the job done. I think the Nads will beat Ghana.
