Vardy getting his 200th Leicester goal in his 500th Leicester appearance, which is also his last home game for them. Most people scoffed (myself included) when they paid £1m for a non-league player, but he must go down as one of the best bargain signings ever.
For some context on the Vardy transfer fee - he signed in 2012 and two months later Sunderland paid £12m for Steven Fletcher.
Vardy and Kane on the bench for Leicester in the 2013 Championship play-off semi-final. David Nugent and Chris Wood started the game for Leicester.
Sad that Lineker is leaving early. Always enjoy him fronting the world cup and euros. Its his own stupid fault though
That's a pretty useful set of four strikers. The Championship version of Cole/Yorke/Sheringham/Solskjaer.
Yeah, it'll be a shame to lose that old school banter. I wouldn't be too sad for Lineker however, bearing in mind his podcast empire earns him a small fortune. Though, if l was him, l'd seriously look at ditching the likes of Micah Richards and freshening things up, if he wants 'The Rest Is Football' to continue bringing in the big bucks.
The biggest question is which of the new trio hosting Match of the Day becomes the main host of the BBC’a England games at the World Cup. I think it might be Kelly Cates because she is the only external hire compared to Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan.
The Rest is Politics was #2 the Rest if Football #4 and the Rest is History #6 in the Q4 2024 UK Podcast rankings. The Rest is History is also the most listened to history podcast in the world. Sandbrook and Holland are earning £1m each a year from it! I'm guessing Linekar is doing very nicely too.
Lineker's interviews on there are really good. The Russell Martin one is well worth a listen if anyone hasn't heard that yet. Seems like a really good bloke and his perspectives about his Southampton tenure were very interesting.
Channel England cff is another good one. The bloke on there talks alot of sense. He does a live feed on a Sunday where you can reply to him. Talking all subjects England
Fair enough, not my cup of tea, but other people obviously like it given its numbers. One of my least favourite of the mainstream football podcasts.
Lineker could do a heck of a lot worse than check out Marina Hyde (The Rest Is Entertainment) and Rory Stewart (The Rest Is Politics) if he wants to know how to make his podcast more informative and illuminating. The three ex-footballers telling us all what we know already routine is starting to wear a bit thin.
🚨🔵 Manchester City have currently left the negotiations for Florian Wirtz.Talks were never advanced or at final stages, just initial approaches but City believe full package is too expensive, as @SamiMokbel_BBC reports.👀 Morgan Gibbs-White remains on Man City shortlist. pic.twitter.com/J90R5WPhOc— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) May 19, 2025
I don’t think I ever warmed to Lineker as a presenter. Sports stars as the presenter has just always felt a bit amateurish.
I mean is there a football equivalent of Rory Stewart? Personally I don't listen to football podcasts. I do listen to TRiP and TRiH a lot though.
Whenever someone mentions her, I can never get it out of my head that she had a affair with Piers Morgan.
