I don't think it's ever (in my lifetime) been as it is now, and that's largely evidenced by the fact that the Allardyce/Pulis/Warnock types barely exist anymore because there's not (enough of) a market for them. You'd expect that at some point it'll come back around again because it'll have to, but I don't know how long it'll take.

Have to say that I think Xavi would be the most interesting choice, although I can see Horris's point in the other thread about it being unlikely to end well. It's hard to think of many current Man Utd players who are a natural fit for the style Xavi's used to, so they'd have to commit to him long-term and accept the transitional period, whereas someone like Frank or Amorim - or van Nistelrooy if he has a good audition - might be able to wring more out of the existing squad.

The difference in Barca between Xavi and an elite coach has been quite stark this season. I don't see why, of all people, they'd pick him to have another crack at a mad house club.

If I were Man Utd I'd go for Carrick. It would appease the fans and the players. But INEOS come across as even more clueless than the glazers.

Not sure it would particularly appease the fans.

I think another team in this league, let alone another one of the big six, appointing another Pep disciple, rigid positional-play, possession-obsessed manager would be terrible from a spectator's perspective.

I don't really think Xavi is that good above all else, but I think the sort of manager described above is a really poor cultural fit for Man United.

Utd fans love ex players as managers. He'd probably get more time to get the team right.

Ballon d'Or executive: "Anyone who says they know the winner is a liar."

We'll see, I guess. Would be quite funny to see Real kick off because they'd given it to someone else who had a very strong claim.

It’s probably part of Real getting ready to withdraw from UEFA and FIFA and become a fully independent club in their own super league as they seemingly want.

I hope they don’t try and pull players from internationals to punish UEFA and FIFA

Its hardly a travesty if Rodri wins it, he's barely lost a game he's played in the past year, and won a League and Continental title.

Has a Real Madrid player won the Ballon d'or every time they've won a Champions League? in the last 15 years? They probably feel they are entitled to it.

It does feel very ott when the rumour is they have players who have finished 2nd 3rd and 4th.

If this is true by Madrid then it's truly pathetic. I really can't see why they think Vinicius is guaranteed a Ballon D'Or.

Their apparent statement is literally so childish it’s insane.

I was pleasantly surprised that the consensus last week about Trent wanting to win the Ballon d'Or more than a number of actual tournaments was along the lines of "well that's pathetic".

Germany could be a big pickle. I think if it happens they might try and poach Rangnick from Austria. Luckily I think the DFB don’t like Tuchel so won’t try and persuade him to break contract.

Tuchel is not going to break his England contract to go elsewhere before he's even got going. That's not even a question.

I am not sure it wants it just yet and he has become unpopular in Germany taking his role with the Red Bukk Group

He apparently has a release clause solely for if Germany come calling so I’m not sure some disgruntled fans who will probably forgive and forget as soon as he starts and if he starts winning, doubt they’ll be that bothered.
