I want Spurs to beat Chelsea to end this misery on Tuesday. Any more than one or two seasons in the Championship and the team will be ground sharing with someone else. The stadium deal won’t sustain a long period of non top flight football, The Mayor of London is already saying West Ham in the championship costs Londoners money. Easy to see attempts to end the lease developing pretty quickly. Quite a life changing 4 years for him through.
There's no way West Ham are moving stadium, its an extremely favourable deal for West Ham but those are the terms of the lease. The only way for it to end would be for both parties to agree on it and the West Ham owners aren't going to suddenly give up a 60k stadium where all operating costs are also covered.
West Ham could still beat Leeds. Think there is a decent chance of that but Spurs should get something at Chelsea. This version of Chelsea are nothing short of a disgrace at home and Spurs are pretty good away from home.
Long term the increased cost to the taxpayer as per the lease for non PL football could cause issues through. Easy to then see moves to try and get the lease changed somehow.
People already hate the deal, an extra 4 games a season isn't going to change anything. There is nothing that could possibly persuade West Ham's ownership to give up such a lease.
The ownership might not have a choice! Politicians might force a buy or leave deal. Because the deal means Championship football means less rent is paid but the costs are not reduced by as much so public money has to make up the difference. https://www.mylondon.news/news/east-london-news/london-taxpayers-lose-25m-year-33936749 On the subject of politicians - is VAR in danger if Andy Burnham becomes PM. He hates VAR. 🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham says he would ban VAR if he had the power "You can't celebrate a goal because you think someone, somewhere in an industrial unit is going to rule it out" pic.twitter.com/11oGJ295fL— Politics UK (@PolitlcsUK) May 16, 2026
You can't suddenly change the terms of a lease after the fact, West Ham would be able to sue and win the case, hence why it will not happen and there is no suggestion of such a thing happening. The extra 4 games are not a huge difference - West Ham played more when they were in Europe under Moyes.
What exactly is so special about this deal the government would break it over all the other bad deals that they have signed?
I doubt that the government can have any meaningful influence over the use of VAR, but from a personal viewpoint it'll be good to see Burnham in number 10. I worked alongside his wife Marie-France for two years and found her good company. Super smart and really grounded.
Champions League final will not be free to watch in UK for first time in competition’s history. Rights holders TNT Sport have also scrapped free streams of Europa and Conference finals despite misgivings from UEFA. | The Guardian https://t.co/UuduIIbaj2— Matt Hughes (@MattHughesMedia) May 18, 2026
Not being funny but I've had to pay for tnt sports all the way through the season. I don't see why it should be free to watch the final when I've had to slog my way through loads of shit champions league games
It's important because to maintain the sport's interest and popularity young kids need a means to watch the biggest games in the sport. There's a wider consequence to this stuff. The reality is none of it should be behind a paywall but those who've paid for a subscription have still been able to watch plenty of unbelievable knockout games that those who don't pay haven't. The final being free to air wouldn't change that.
That’s the spirit Rover, make the young kids go to the pubs with their parents if they want to watch the final to see their heroes play and be inspired hopefully.
I couldn't really give a shit about the champions league anyway. I only watch it when English players are involved
If they were going to do it often then fair enough but ifs it’s just one offs for the finals, it shouldn’t really be a big issue really mate.
Pep Guardiola QUITS Man City: Legendary manager to leave club at end of the season after FA Cup triumph at Wembley https://t.co/hjXEJxyJv7— Daily Mail Sport (@MailSport) May 18, 2026
If that's the case, then gut instinct says he'll simply be a placeholder until Vincent Kompany or Luis Enrique become available. Trouble is their contracts run until 2029 and 2030 respectively.
