Exactly this, even if it was an accidental handball which is even questionable from the footage, absolutely no way is it a clear goal scoring opportunity. I’ve said this on numerous occasions on numerous games that the crime doesn’t warrant a free shot on goal where you score on 75% of the time. It’s just ridiculous and if the rules doesn’t get tweaked on this, they are idiots! It’s just not common sense as far as I’m concerned.
Arsenal showing themselves to be who they are Members of staff at Arsenal have been left disappointed after being charged £859 for travel to the Champions League final. Big contrast with PSG, who are paying for all of their employees to go (and yes, the two clubs operate very differently financially)https://t.co/HMIPURnXTs— Sam Dean (@SamJDean) May 13, 2026

It's the technology, not the people using it.Column on another glorious week for VAR:https://t.co/VqxgvOolRF— Jack Pitt-Brooke (@JackPittBrooke) May 14, 2026 But we were told it was for absolute howlers ONLY and they WONT re referee and maximum benefit and minimum interference!!! 🤷🏼♂️ #GETRIDOFIT https://t.co/RlmXjtoDdQ— Alan Shearer (@alanshearer) May 14, 2026 The leagues surely have to realise it no longer has much support to use VAR.
It feels odds on there is going to be a brilliant VAR decision in one of the European finals or the FA/Scottish Cup finals. I can see the non old Firm clubs in Scotland bunching together to get rid of it through - would be a powerful show of strength and cause panic for the PL, IFAB, UEFA and FIFA.
If everyone at home can see the bad calls then I don't see how it can be the technology at fault. I think AI will replace referees eventually anyway. Guaranteed consistency.
I hope the FA’s deal for England matches is watertight because the ITV/Sky merger could see them putting England matches behind a paywall with just FTA highlights if it’s not. Only tournament matches are protected. 🚨🤓 Southampton Spygate personal view:1. Expect the breaches will be straightforward to establish (ie liability) and almost certainly admitted to try and get some sanction credit/discount2. Expect aggravating factors such as other examples of Soton spying this year to be…— slbsn (@slbsn) May 15, 2026
That feels unlikely in the short term. Going by this headline even the BBC is on the VAR must go Bandwagon. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/ckgp6y4lmkpo
Feels like Middlesbrough are not confident of Southampton being kicked out as speaking out before a hearing is the type of reaction a lot of hearings don’t like.

There are few things more frustrating in football than the keeper of the team you're rooting for diving over an extremely saveable penalty. Hearts fans will be having nightmares about that if they don't win the title now.
They need to led the global campion to abolish VAR. They could probably get the SPL and EPL to agree within a year.
You could say it was a once in a generation opportunity for Scottish football too. Ending the duopoly could've been absolutely massive but it'll be decades of more of the same.
Goal from Callum Osmand. Should Carsley take a look at him? Tony Bloom data system is only just getting started. Reckon they'll break the Old Firm grip in the next few years.
I'd get it if it were Rangers but it's really weird how they've acted towards a major underdog in Hearts. Really distasteful. Dunno. Be a while before both Celtic and Rangers are as poor as they've been this season. Celtic have had an absolute shocker of a campaign and still won it.
Celtic fans are irritating as f#ck. Is there another club fanbase with a bigger inferiority complex in world football? As a side note. This is actually very bad for Scottish football as a whole that Hearts didn't win the League. Esp when this League title was given to Celtic via a dubious penalty decision the other night.
