Given that Milwall drew with Southampton in January and ultimately finished one point outside the automatic promotion positions, they are going to be very, very hacked off if this is proven. 🚨 The other clubs with evidence are supposedly Millwall, Bristol City and Norwich. 👀 https://t.co/zcHBXIB7mx— The 44 ⚽️ (@The_Forty_Four) May 13, 2026
I think this is exactly why they will just fine them, it's simply the easiest option that creates the least knock on issues. The football league is run by clowns making it up as they go along at the best of times. They really should have had set punishment in place after the Leeds incident in the first place which would have removed all the doubt hanging over everything.
Even if Celtic come back and win if Hearts get a big win the goal difference could be a challenge for Celtic coke Saturday.
If celtic turn it around they'd only be 2 points behind. So a win for Celtic at the weekend wins them the title
Goal difference will only be a factor if Celtic draw and Hearts win tonight. If They both win, Celtic will take the title if they beat Hearts in the last match.
Palace look completely checked out, unsurprisingly given the Conference League final coming up - good news for City tonight, but very bad news for them given Arsenal's last two games are Burnley at home and Palace away. No way Palace are putting anything on the line 3 days before the final.
Yeah, Arsenal are playing Palace reserves. Burnley are all that's realistically in the way of Arsenal winning the league, and Burnley are rubbish.
Bloody Celtic are going to end up winning this league aren’t they! Hope they don’t but you just know it!
Celtic were awarded a penalty following this incident https://t.co/cHfOipq7D9— Goals Xtra (@GoalsXtra) May 13, 2026 Is this really a pen? You can't tell if it hit his hand or not from that angle but even if it did, the reason his hand is in that position is because the Celtic player charges into the Motherwell player's arm from behind and alters its position. Imagine if Hearts lose the title on that.
The SPL will go down to the wire. Hearts need to avoid defeat at Celtic Park to become the first non-Old Firm team to win the title since 1984/85. Since Jock Stein's first full season as Celtic manager in 1965/66, only Alex Ferguson (3 times) and Jim McLean (once) have managed a non-Old Firm team to the title. All of these occurred in a six season spell in the late 70s to mid 80s. Interestingly, the top scorer in that 1965/66 season was a certain Alex Ferguson.
I don't see how you can give a penalty for that. There's nothing definitive from the clip shown (which I'm assuming is exactly what the ref saw) that shows he handled it, and that's without taking into account the impact from the Celtic player.
Never in a million years a penalty, not only is the actual image too poor quality to be conclusive, even if it does hit his hand its due to the Celtic player jumping into him. Yet another VAR decision where its overturned by absolute desperation to find something rather than a clear error being identified. As an aside, there really need to be serious discussions about a penalty being the correct result of a handball. Seems to me the majority of handball decisions are at best questionable and more often than not a debate over natural positioning of the hand. If they aren't capable of fixing the handball rules then it should be knocked down to a indirect free kick in the box unless it denies a clear goalscoring opportunity.
Another worry about that decision is how quickly he awarded it from a single view. The way the ball bounced away showed no indication of it hitting his hand, so he really should have asked for more angles at the very least.
The SPL has had some pretty dreadful decisions involving VAR. I remember being gobsmacked by a decision in a Rangers game (can’t remember which one).
I suspect VAR will be gone from Scotland next season. I believe it’s even more unpopular than it is in England.
