🚨 Thomas Frank to take today’s news conference & training session before Tottenham Hotspur host Borussia Dortmund + expected to continue in charge for #UCL game v #BVB on Tues despite growing uncertainty over 52yo’s role as #THFC head coach @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/xzdUuxGF5C— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) January 19, 2026 The Premier League wants to introduce rugby-style concussion substitutions - The Guardian.
Think they should to be honest plus think they should allow subs for when players get injured and have to go off to be treated. It’s always a puzzle when someone gets tackled illegally and the team punishment is to be down to ten men due to not fault of the player injured by an opposing player. Didn’t Newcastle get punished like this recently? I know people will push back on this but something that’s always bugged me. Maybe there’s another way I don’t know.
Pretty sure that you don't have to go off for treatment if the player is booked or sent off for the foul. Otherwise, the players made a rod for their own back with all of the injury feigning. If they had always only stayed down if genuinely hurt then we wouldn't have this situation.
🚨 Premier League appoints Rebecca Caplehorn as chief football officer. Highly-regarded Tottenham Hotspur exec leaves #THFC after more than 10yrs to replace outgoing Tony Scholes. Senegal were reigning African Champions going into the last World Cup in Qatar. And obviously will now be again at the World Cup this year. They did look very strong against England at Nottingham Forest last summer. Might cause legal action apparently. This was weird as well, sub goalkeeper getting harassed. Senegal's substitute goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf had to protect Edouard Mendy's towel in the AFCON final. 😳🇸🇳 pic.twitter.com/vuAQwhaV2P— EuroFoot (@eurofootcom) January 19, 2026
I feel like they will be another summer vote on VAR but if it gets 14 clubs (As it needs that many for it to be axed) I am not sure. Do the American owners in particular dislike it? American sports are full of challenge or review systems. Many of the worse mistakes wouldn’t be solved by a challenge system (Tonight’s penalty would likely have been a Bournemouth challenge i suspect)
Looks like Senegal might be kicked out of the World Cup and replaced with the Congo - with Nigeria going to the Playoffs. Would help France and Norway a bit.
Kicked out of the World Cup? Why? Just because of this walk of the pitch or is it convenient for banning them so Trump doesn’t have to worry about letting their fans into the US……

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cpv7dr41yndo Sounds like the FA actually folded a bit and let a daylight offside trial go ahead and gave up on their torso idea. Wonder if they going to trial it in the Women’s game which already feels higher scoring then the Men’s.
Concerned European football chiefs discuss response to Trump over Greenland https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...scuss-response-to-donald-trump-over-greenland Honestly not sure the World Cup is going ahead with how an invasion of Greenland is still on the table!

It would be a very embodiment of fifas incompetence for them to invent a peace prize to give to Trump, only for him to ruin their world cup by starting a war. Regardless of Greenland I don't see the world cup passing without Trump doing SOMETHING that causes a massive issue, he just loves the attention too much to avoid doing it no matter how much fifa have tried to grease his palm. On the eve of the tournament fifa will be powerless, and will have to grin and bare it regardless of what he does.
It's far from inconceivable that the Greenland issue could lead to a European boycott of the World Cup. I'm sure the World Cup would still take place though. We could easily hold another edition of the Euros if the worst was to happen.
FIFA has always been worried about Trump doing something directly to the World Cup - trying to ban team, trying to cancel Canada and/or Mexico’s matches or even trying to expel teams and/or officials after the tournament starts. I am not sure they prepared as well for a crisis that affects it but is not directly connected to it.

Knowing FIFA. They will announce the renaming of the trophy to the "Donald Trump, President of Peace" trophy
