Danny mills just now on the radio defending Southgate saying before he took the job England were getting knocked out by Iceland and Portugal bang average teams.
Good to see, though I'm sure City and PSG have paid off the appropriate people to avoid sanctions. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/61810148
Jesus, Infantino is such a prick. Told 2 lies just now on the selection show... "every match will be like a 'final' in 2026!" Nah, you clowns are expanding the tournament to 48 f ucking teams. "soccer will be the #1 sport in this part of the world by 2026." Nah, won't beat NFL but that's ok. Oh well, Dallas will host matches, so I'm happy. Hopefully tickets aren't insane. My kids will be 3 and 6 by that point.
Football in five years: Countdown clocks, self-serve free kicks and quick corners, but sorry Arsene, no kick-ins (if the last failed trial is anything to go by!)... how the beautiful game could be reshaped. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/s...rve-free-kicks-quick-corners-no-kick-ins.html
the kick-in idea is pure nonsense. they're trying to speed things up? gimme a fukking break. any "kick in" in the oppo half will be like a corner. we'd see CBs ambling up, all the shoving would start with the ref stopping to warn everyone ... you name it. the effect is the exact opposite of speeding the game up. fukking idiots. all of them. you'd think they've never seen a game before.
Kick ins are silly. Clock changes are something I could get behind, on paper; but I could say the same thing about VAR...
Four of the biggest names in the refereeing stable have vacated their roles, with the latest to do so emerging this week. According to the Times‘ Martyn Ziegler, Kevin Friend has joined Mike Dean, Jon Moss and Martin Atkinson in retiring from his position as a referee. Friend, Moss and Atkinson are already confirmed as having taken up roles within PGMOL, while Dean is expected to remain involved with their Elite Referee Development plan. The quartet stood among the eight-most experienced referees in the English top flight, with Dean having debuted in 2000. https://www.thisisanfield.com/2022/...-profile-referees-with-1-new-face-brought-in/
Without so much as a thought to the fact that neither real nor barca should qualify given their debt spending...
In tonight's MLS match between Philadelphia and NYCFC, Philly's head physio Paul Rushing was sent off by the referee. NYCFC striker pushed Rushing's shoulder while the latter was bent down tending to a Union player. A kerfuffle broke out and Rushing continued jawing at NYCFC players. At one point Union left back Kai Wagner was screaming at Rushing and trying to get him off the pitch. I've never seen a physio get sent off before. Union won 2-1 on a deflected goal at the death.
If they can be this precise with "29 points," surely they could determine in nanoseconds whether 50% of a person was 'offside' or the entire attacker is beyond the 2nd to last defender rather than using an errant kneecap to exclude a goal. This kills the spirit of the game and is a solution to a problem NOBODY wanted solved. Atrocious. http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=34173269
