I can't find the VAR thread for some reason, so I'll put this here. the offside rule is becoming a total damn joke!! https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ue-10-talking-points-from-the-weekends-action Gabriel Martinelli’s disallowed goal at Goodison Park was another example of an offside law that has become almost too pedantic to function. The decisive action was a square pass from Gabriel Magalhães to Declan Rice that was intercepted by Beto. The ball ricocheted 40 yards in a completely different direction to Eddie Nketiah, who was running away from goal and gained precisely no advantage from being fractionally offside. He knocked it back to Fábio Vieira, whose through pass was finished majestically by Martinelli. The goal was disallowed because Beto’s interception, though deliberate, was not a “deliberate play” under the revised laws of the game. Instead of the deflection being one of the myriad variables that make football so compelling, Nketiah was technically offside. Nobody disputed that it was the correct decision, only the extent to which the law is an ass. When the FA’s Ebenezer Cobb Morley introduced offside in 1863, it was to stop goalhanging, not to give pedants their ikigai.* =========================== * I looked it up - 'Iki' in Japanese means 'life,' and 'gai' describes value or worth. Your ikigai is your life purpose or your bliss.
I almost miss the days when, if anyone was behind the last two defenders when the ball is played forward regardless when they receive the ball or nowhere near the play, (50 yards away from the ball) they’re offside. So much easier for the AR and no need for someone watching TV to muse over while the play stops.
it's close to farce isn't it. an attacker in this scenario, when the ball is played: - on the touchline just inside the oppo half - all alone in that half apart from the oppo goalie - standing still, facing his own goal - a defender is sprinting full-out to get back and just runs past the halfway line BUT offside called coz the defender's foot is 2 inches behind the attacker's arse the game's becoming a joke.
I don't think a cup would even do that much good at that point blank range... maybe would protect a bit against a testicular rupture, but that is gonna hurt no matter what.
yeah it'd be more psychological than practical ... but jeez. seeing that makes you wonder why it doesn't happen more often actually. maybe some cool-headed strikers can bear it mind next time Pickford tries to "make himself big".
Spanish police raided the offices of the referees' committee as part of an investigation into Barcelona's alleged corrupt payments to an official. Barcelona face charges of corruption over payments made to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, a former vice-president of the committee, in return for favourable refereeing decisions. Uefa is also investigating the matter. Barcelona deny any wrongdoing and no arrests were made during the search in Madrid. The Spanish Civil Guard searched the Spanish Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) headquarters on Thursday. BBC Sport has been told that the judge presiding over the case demanded documentation from the CTA. This was not sent, which prompted the raid. The initial criminal investigation was brought by the Barcelona public prosecutor's office in March, with European football's governing body Uefa launching its own investigation shortly after. It is alleged that Barcelona paid 8.4m euros (£7.4m) to Negreira and his Dasnil 95 company. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/66946236

will the press wave this complaint off, like they did when Jurgen talked about it? hmmmm ? https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/66964423 "Players can't deal any more with this overload." Those are the rather foreboding words of Erik ten Hag as the Manchester United boss grapples with an ever-increasing injury list. The Dutchman was speaking on the day his defender Lisandro Martinez was ruled out until the end of the year, bringing the total number of Red Devils' injury absentees to eight.
nope. All of a sudden it will be "ten hag has valid criticism of schedule". ("Klopp is moaning again")
Jurgen is usually 2-3 years ahead of the pack on most football-related issues. he gets ignored, or even mocked, then when everyone catches up with him his though-leadership is completely forgotten.
