Leo is correct. There are others who should be favorites ahead of us. But this does not mean we should not make a nice run to repeat. I also think he’s not the type to ever say, “Yeah, we are definitely favorites.”

I think many of us feel that we are just out of rhythm right now. Can we be convincing? Sure, but too many times I have felt frustrated with this squad over the last couple of years, including the CA. I’m not a lifelong cynic like some others, but there need to be changes.

Scaloni, in the past, thought with his head instead of his heart, but nowadays it feels like the opposite. But I’ll say this much; he does make changes, so there’s that. I think he won’t hesitate to drop players.

And look, we looked awful vs. the Saudis, again awful vs. Mexico and Poland until the goal came, so maybe we should expect a bit more of the same.

Again, I’m not going to say this is going to be disastrous, unlike others who are always doom and gloom or are Negative Nancys, but we do have a fairly favorable draw (if we win our group) that should put us into the quarters. In the R16, I do not expect Uruguay to beat Spain in the group stages, and I do not think Uruguay is a good enough team to beat us nor do I think Bielsa will want to play for penalties from the get-go, its not in his DNA. Yes, it will be a tough game but I am fine with it.

Also, teams who come in hot don’t always stay hot. We all recall 2002, with ourselves and France getting bounced in the first round, while Brasil, who struggled throughout qualifying, managed to win it in one of the worst Mundials I can recall. Maybe 2010 was just as bad.
