Award-winning Somali referee Omar Artan was officially selected by FIFA to officiate at the 2026 World Cup, but he has reportedly been denied entry to the United States despite travelling on a diplomatic passport.

I knew that hosting a WC in the US was a bad idea, but I wasn't expecting this kind of bs from them

It's precautionary because no one wants members of the IRGC creeping in. I have a good friend who's Iranian who said he wants them all to just pull out because he claims they had some better players who weren't supportive of the regime left behind. Some of it was worry that they might defect. I can't confirm or not but this guy is a solid individual and knows the game well and I trust what he says. Recall that the IRGC members weren't even let into Canada last month at the conference, so the US isn't really being over precautionary in my mind.
