I mean we're in the U.S. FIFA could just deputize Filip Dujic to run on the field for VAR announcements.

Will Argentina balk, or does Collina just not care anymore?

He very well could be in the IDGAF stage. Brazil is "due" a final ref.

And what Argentina is going to spend 3 days saying the ref will be against them? They'll be laughed out of the room by a neutral media.

Not really a discussion I’d join, but if a UEFA and COMNEBOL, along with SF refs are out, does that leave him or Fischer?

UEFA isn't out but I doubt it would be Vincic and Eskas would be a surprise.

It almost feels like it has to be Faghani. AFC is the only confederation (other than OFC) that has never had a World Cup final referee. And they will never have a better candidate than someone who has done several other FIFA/Olympics finals.

Well I think Nishimura was a better referee but that didn’t work.

No Faghani or Ramos in the final four matches exactly like we all expected a month ago.

We were all so wrong. My sneaking suspicion was that Vincic, even before the tournament, was going to sneak a semi-final, but never thought he could get the Final.

I don't think we will ever get to the bottom of this tournament and what the ******** happened to the assigning here.

    Nothing has made any sense.

No Ramos, no Faghani, no Sampaio, no Marciniak.

I was waiting for Sampaio to get the Final to write this, but it still applies even without him getting the game.

I don't know what is more of a closed shop? Winning the World Cup or officiating the World Cup Final if you're not from Europe or South America (or maybe from Argentina)?

This century it has been a UEFA referee or an Argentine?

I know we had some ceilings broken with semi-final appointments this World Cup and previous ones (Elfath and Barton, Irmatov in '10, Ali Bujsaim in '98), but it just seems they don't trust anyone outside of UEFA and Argentina for the World Cup Final.

Also, the appointment of Belqola in '98 is more and more of an outlier and highlights that it might be the ultimate political appointment in World Cup history as it was a bone thrown to CAF for not getting to host the 2006 World Cup.
