Discussion on the effect of PSG's spending on the rest of Ligue 1 and potential impact of Francois Hollande raising the tax rate on high salaries to 75%. http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/st...le-marcotti-psg-looks-dominate-france-ligue-1
Does anyone have a list of player salaries? I'd be interested to see how many teams would be significantly affected by having to double salaries of players making more than 1 million to keep their net the same.
Highest paid player last season : For Marseille only : http://www.footmarseille.com/s2011/salaire-joueur-om.html
source So if Ibra makes 14M net (24M gross), his salary would have to increase to 56M to keep him level. That's frightening.
focalizing this on football is a pretty narrow way of looking at things. those concerned are probably a minority of footballers and certainly don't represent more than 0,1% of the tax bracket involved, which doesn't make much of a sliver in the pie chart in its entirety. some things have to be more important than football and trying to build a better and fairer society (to be brief) is one of them.
Nicollin is upset. This is what happens when a club like Montpellier wins the title. Players want salary and bonus increases and a club that doesnt have a lot of money isnt willing to pay up. I never thought Montpellier would be the next OL and you can tell why because Nicollin is different from Aulas. I dont think Aulas was complaining when he won his first title. http://www.foot01.com/ligue1/nicollin-et-montpellier-decouvrent-les-joies-d-un-titre,92209
A good season for them will be the Europa League (4th or 5th place.) They can still finish top 3 but I dont think they will and I hope they do not. I think PSG and Lille are locked in for the top 2 and a surprise team will get 3rd and the last CL spot. Theres always surpise teams near the top of the table.
I actually think Montpellier is in a better position than Lyon, Marseille and Bordeaux to get top 3. Belhanda is due for a big breakout season and I really like the signings of Congre & Mounier, if Yanga-Mbiwa stays and Herrera can score 12-15 goals I say they make top 3. My guess for top 5 1. PSG 2. Lille 3. Montpellier 4. Bordeaux 5. Marseille As for suprise teams, I think Nancy will have a good season, possible push for top 7 and if St Etienne can stay healthy they could make a push but their depth looks weaker this season than the last. If Lisandro stays healthy and the Lyon youngsters come through they might be able to push for top 3 but to me Montpellier just looks like a more consistent team.
I hope you're right about Nice, they need some positive momentum going into that new stadium and not end up like Le Mans or Le Havre. I think Mounier will be missed though and I wonder who will lead the offense. But I do really like Monzon and I guess if Cvitanich and Pentecôte can perform they might be able to get out of the yearly relegation battle.
I think I like Bordeaux for 3rd as of now. They havent brought anyone in which is alarming but there's still time. Nice looks like a relegation candidate to me but I hope not.
bordeaux haven't bought anyone but with the size of the squad (25+), 3 youth player promoted and the loaned out players returning there wasn't going to be much buying that and there's not much to replace, CBs are good, midfield is set, attack is good as long as some players don't under perform like in these last 2 seasons I can agree with folks putting bordeaux in top 2-5(I think everyone here has psg as no.1) that and fcgb just don't have issues that are that pressing compared to other teams of similar or bigger stature
Anybody know anything about this BeIN sports involvement in French football ? The advertisements on the boards of TdC is the first I noticed them. How did they manage to acquire all the rights of football in France?
with money? unless they paid everyone with oil or gold jokes aside I'm still not sure what cable company will show this bein al jazeera shin dig, I heard direct tv might show them they've acquired not only ligue 1 but other leagues as well, I heard their plan is to muscle their way into the US by buying all the rights hoping for customers of cable providers to complain long enough to showcase them there's 1-2 threads somewhere in BigS about this but I stopped watching it do to people just launching personal attacks and the amount of speculation
It's Al Jazeera's sports channel who is making a push to establish themselves in Europe, they are owned (or at least partially owned) by the same people who own Paris SG so I guess it's part of their overall investment in France and Ligue 1. Without them the tv deal would probably have been much worse for the league.
I'm not criticizing them, I was just wondering what their motive is to buying into France. I don't consider are league to be attractive one from a foreign prospective. Maybe it's just because this is cheapest big league to get a foothold into...
And just like that, first goal and first red card of the season. Ligue 1 has begun!! (Think that's a harsh red though).
This was actually a derby match. Battle of the large cities with 35,000 seat stadiums which are usually only half full.
