Don't know about anyone else, but I was reminded that today's the Superdraft when I went to ESPN Soccer to look up some stuff for the World Cup.

I ended up reading the real-time chat with the ESPN reporter, for some reason.

I even felt some butterflies in my stomach as our pick came up. "Waitta sec--HOUSTON? Where's our pick? Did we trade it? Who did we get??!"

    Then reality set in.

    Sigh.

About the only thing I personally found noteworthy was that the #1 pick, as well as Houston's pick, both went to the same university as I did. And the #2 pick went to the same high school as I did.

But in the end, I'm reduced to making catty remarks to myself about the new uniforms.

    Sigh.

Yes. I casually followed the draft and I had a painful feeling in my gut.

    Sadness. :(

Someone on the Houston draft thread asked about getting Guevara in Houston! Sheesh! They just don't understand the team they are getting!

This ain't my team anymore! :(

    I can't take it. I need beer! But I'm at work. :(

You need one of those thin, flexible Coke®-label magnets that just so happens to completely cover up an entire 12 oz. can of your favorite golden beverage.

With their second pick, the Ho's choose Andre Schmid of St. John's University, a 22-year-old, 6' 4" forward from Sacramento.

Like my old coach used to say, a coach can teach a lot of thing. But you can't teach someone to be 6' 4".

Actually, just about every coach has said something similar:

You can't teach 7-4 (Ralph Sampson)

You can't teach 330 lbs (Fridge Perry)

You can't teach 4.5 (bajoro in his glory days)

Dom must have forgotten the team has been moved out of northern California. With his three draft picks, he drafted two guys from northern California and one from Fresno.

Good luck adjusting to the heat, humidity and Fieldturf, guys. :) (Yes, it gets hot in Sacramento, Lodi and Fresno during the summer but it's a "dry" heat. ;) )

Ianni was ours! Patrick's brother Tayt, that is. Great header winning goal in our first home playoff game against the scum ten years ago ...

in general, day one of my new who gives a damn about the news from MLS.

In all seriousness, I wasn't even aware that the MLS SuperDraft was today until I saw this thread.

Not that it would've mattered to me one way or the other anyway.

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

I knew about the draft two nights ago as I was watching FSC. It's really tough for me. All these years, the days before today, we would all speculate what team would get who, and what our team needed. I still remember how we refeshed the draft page frequently to see the update and discussed here. (Oh, what?another reject from LA? Another local guy?...Of course, we know they all worked out so good for our team and we missed them).

For something we devoted so much time, energy and emotion to, it sadly has totally nothing to do with us this year and for a while.

Like someone of you said, this is the first big thing that indicated my separation from my team and the league.

Now that you mention it, I remember them talking about it on American Soccer Tuesday on GOL TV but it really didn't register and I was surprised by the news when I saw this thread. I guess the MLS really is out-of-sight, out-of mind to me.

I think I might make my way over to DeAnza College tomorrow or Sunday morning to check out the SJ Frogs tryouts and see first hand how the young local talent is coming along.

Oh, I didn't watch the SuperDraft even after I saw see this thread.

It turns out that without a San Jose Earthquakes, I really don't miss MLS all that much (if at all). I may watch it again when the San Jose Earthquakes return, but then (as before) it'll be the Quakes, rather than the league, that I'll follow first.

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

One of the very things that used to be a curse - mainstream media's continued ignoring of MLS - is actually now a blessing. Unlike with the other major sports leagues here, it's very easy to ignore MLS if one isn't going out of their way to search for the latest info about it. :)

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

Well, I do miss the Quakes. But without them, it's actually been easier to miss news about the league than I initially thought it would be.

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

You'd have to rank an opinion like that somewhere at the height of idiocy.

And, the way I see it, those are still OUR guys. Houston is only a way station for those who will return.

Gah, I know adidas have gone horribly generic but did they need to do it league-wide? That's just horrible. 11 (soon to be 12) ugly versions of the same ugly shirt.

Well that's what you get when you only allow one supplier...whatever that supplier damn well pleases. Get used to those ripped off kits.

    And the scudetto thing...lame!
