I'm not used to all these trades, I was so used to the coach that shall not be named running a dead horse into the ground and just praying things would get better on their own.

If that doesn't get Eddie to pay attention, nothing will.

Being shopped around means that you either can be a nice little earner, or you aren't worth what we're paying you.

    Deal, or no deal?

A change of scenery would do both Eddie and Carlos good...are you listening Steve?

I say Gaven + 2nd or 3rd round draft pick for Ruiz. We do them a favor by actually giving them some cap space to restructure their team faster.

Oh, and I agree. If Gaven doesn't come out on Saturday like a bat out of hell and create some serious havoc (aka, contributing to the score line, not just near misses) then he's just gaven up (*rim shot*).

Ruiz would be a good trade. Other than that I can't think of anyone that is a proven goalscorer that we could get for Gaven +.

Honestly, Gaven + 1st rounder for Ruiz is a deal worth making in my book. We will have added three good players to pick us up from the depths. With the exception of Guille, the majority of this team will be back next year and given time to infamously "gel", we would be ok without that 1st rounder next year.

On a slightly related topic, how have our first rounders panned out? Obviously, there's McBride, but where have the subsequent 10 first rounders ended up? I honestly don't know, and think it would be interesting to see the "down the road" value of the first rounders.

I would like the Gaven + 1st round for Ruiz pickup from an on the field stance. But it is a shame that we have a 20 year old player, who we stole from NYRB for Buddle, who decided to join the league in as a young teenager and never got the chance to develop. The damage could already be done with Eddie Gaven. It's not like we can cut his salary back down to 30k and work him with the reserves to better develop him and take some pressure off him. I agree if he needs to be traded from a business stance. I just wish from a fans perspective, he could get properly developed because there is raw talent there. Maybe Moreno will help to buy Gaven some more time. But with 188k staring the FO in the face, we got to get production relatively soon, or we need to see what return we can get from a trade. Maybe Robbie Findlay from LA. Has potential and raw talent with a smaller pricetag. But I hope it all works out for the best, Eddie picks it up, Scores 7 goals this season and leads Columbus to many titles.

    Cheers,

    1998: Jeff Cunningham
    1999: Matt Chulis
2000: Roland Aguilera (our first pick wasn’t until 2nd round, first rounders that year included: Nick Garcia, Adin Brown, Carlos Bocanegra, Danny Califf, Sasha Victorine, and Bobby Convey)
    2001: Duncan Oughton
    2002: Kyle Martino
2003: Diego Walsh (or you can just call him “Diego” if you’re in Australia)
2004: Chad Marshall (interesting note, Chad was #2 overall, Jar-Jar was #3 overall, Grabs #14, Hesmer #17)
2005: Marcus Storey (our first pick wasn’t until 2nd round; however O’Rourke was #4 overall and Ward was #12 overall)
    2006: Jason Garey #3, Kei Kamara #9,
2007: Brad Evans (2nd rounder after send #2 overall to F*re for Herron)

Thanks KK. Maybe there is some value to the first rounder after all. Seems to be 50/50 with our past decision making.

Well, one was traded to KC after a year or two here (and didn't become a starter their either) and recently went to the Australian A-League.

One is on the IR with a concussion.

One asked to be traded because he couldn't get motivated to play here in columbus. So he's sitting the bench in LA.

One got traded to ch*c*g* (the pick itself), for what is now serving a 4 game suspension.

    Not sure about the others.

*sorry if this was already answered got pulled away in the middle of writing it

I bet he and Guille could get on the same page in one heck of a hurry.

I still just do not understand that whole deal. Sigi was literally the only person in all of American soccer who didn't think the guy was the best player on the Crew.

Can't believe *I forgot* Kamara and Garey.

So basically, I'd say McBride, Cunningham, and Ougton are the only actual first round draft picks that have worked out. And as much as I like Oughton, was has he really been first round material?

Chad, Garey, and Kamara may or may not be added to that list.

Gaven plus first round pick for Ruiz would be a good move in my opinion. Gaven isn't changing his game anytime here soon.

I think Oughton is first round material and has had a much longer MLS career than a vast majority of MLS draftees of the 1st round. I mean, go look at some of the names and its just frightening how much of a craps-shoot it is to find somebody that works out via the draft.

I must be the only person still in Gaven's camp. I know he has struggled but I am not ready to give up on him yet I think he still has the ability to turn into a big time player. I know his contract is high but i think if he started to play up to his ability he would be worth it. I have never and will never like Ruiz so I guess I have a bias in that way. I know that the whole draft pick thing but I have never been a fan of trading draft picks only because you can atleast try to address need in the draft for little money. I hope we keep Gaven and I hope Ruiz breaks his leg

Man, that would be one hell of a start to a final 3rd.

But what's done it done, maybe after Seb misses the massive-ness, he will come to his senses and come back!

I'm not against Gaven at all he's one of the players I like best, but we need some strikers right now and he's the perfect trade bait.

Because he played Ronaldinho-like defense without the Ronaldinho-like offensive production. And he was never on the same page as the rest of the guys. (One could definately argue that it was the other players who should have gotten on Rozental's page, but it's easier to change on guy than to change the whole team.)

As for this deal, I have to say I'm in no hurry to get rid of Gaven, but if that turns out to be what Dallas is asking for (plus some other stuff) then I would certainly have no problem with giving him up.

Remember though, we have no confirmation that Dallas is looking to trade Ruiz. It's all wishful thinking from us.

If Sigi is upset with Gaven, why the F*ck doesn't he sit him. He plays EVERY SINGLE game.

For the record, I think Ruiz in on his way back to Guatemala. No way I'd give up d!ck for him. Plus he'll count as a DP next year. Why give up Eddie Gaven (some value) and a first round pick to get a striker. Just use the damn DP.

Obviously, there could be salary issues, but trade Gaven for a pick or lesser player to free up the space. Use the DP on a striker. Not a wing player, not a withdrawn forward type, a damn forward.

    News flash, we need one.

Totally agree with Bill about Seb, that was past stupid. I'm glad we let him go so Gaven could play #10. Geez.

Yeah, Sigi seems to love the guy, and for the $$$ Gaven's getting, Gaven pretty much HAS to play. If the rumor is true that the Crew is shopping Gaven around, then Sigi's got a problem. He can't AFFORD to sit him.

I do like the fact the Sigi is trying to shake up the team offensively. Moreno may just be a spark to get the team over the edge. I'm still in the Kool-Aid line. Hit me, bartender.
