Let me take the time to say how much I appreciate Gary Neville, despite his occasional horror game.

He's totally committed to the club. His comments sometimes go over the top (like about scousers), but that's sure as hell better than all the complete mercenaries in the game. Gary gives everything in every game. Sure, he's not always great... but I think he's definitely locked down right back position enough so that it's not an issue at all. You can't say that about our other defensive positions. He also played well for England this summer.

And on the club v. country matter, I think he's always been pretty mature about it. He obviously cares about both United and England. Unlike Scholes, he doesn't half-ass it for his country. And unlike Beckham (or, perhaps now, Ronaldo) you don't feel like United are just a paycheck half the time. He's passionate about both, as it should be.

Madrid's President talkes about Zidanes y Pavones. Well, I think it's a good idea. Madrid went wrong in buying an absurd # of attacking players and neglecting their defense. But I think that Van Nistelrooys and Nevilles isn't a bad policy.

So, I'm glad Gary will likely see out his career at United. He's been a good player and loyal servant.

gary neville has been decent for us but phil neville getting another 5 year contract--you must be kidding me

now what makes phil neville better than nicky butt seriously

bayern munich didnt have a problem letting niko kovac go and keeping robert kovac

manu needs to start getting rid of the deadwood and i guess they kept phil to keep gary happy but one player that needs to go is kleberson aka the cheap oh we didnt get ronaldinho but we have kleberson move from last summer

has anyone seen kleberson i mean a total waste
he is built to be in a midtable laliga team not ManU

Versatility - Phil can play central midfield, left back or right back. Butt is purely a defensive central midfielder.

This is very good news. The Brothers Neville for 5 more years gives us a good 3 or 4 more goals to look forward to!

    Become the Tea Pot!!
I can understand Gary's deal and its value but most certainly not Phil's. P.Neville on 50k a week is most definitely a reward by Fergie and not based on playing ability. If Phil is worth 50k then what are the clubs premier players on?

Can anyone post up the wage structure at United? I'd love to know what giggs, scholes and keane are on for a start.

Individual salaries are not public record. Being that we are a PLC, we only post the percentage that wages take up of the total budget (however that number is lumped in with trainers, coaches, etc.). Anytime there is a number mentioned in the press, like so-and-so is making 50K a week, it's purely speculation.
