http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...-how-the-libertarian-could-shake-up-2012.html Congratulations to Governor Johnson for winning the Libertarian nomination for President. Let the games begin!
I used to vote libertarian. I agree with the position on social issues, but everything else....just seems like a really naive view of how government (and the world in general) works. I loved when they ran a hooker for California lt. governor, though. I suppose if I were to become a one-issue voter again, or if Virginia is not looking like a close race, I might consider voting for this guy.
The difference here is that finally, for the first time since possibly the Bull Moose Party has a third party had a person actually qualified to become president running on their ticket.
Anderson had a lot of experience in the Senate. George Wallace had been governor (I'll make no comment on his character). Ralph Nader should have his face on a coin, but he didn't have a lot of governmental experience.
I think Anderson was actually a congressman. Can't remember what the name of that party was, though. Really showing my age.
I think he just ran as an independent. You want to talk age-showing? He was the first person I ever voted for, in the Illinois GOP primary.
Ditto, except it was the PA primary. One of two Presidential candidates I ever saw give a speech, the other being Mondale in 1984. Mondale's speech was hilariously bad, a parody of what Republicans say about Democrats -- a recitation of all the pork he had ever brought to the region, and a promise to bring even more goodies after becoming President. I went away thoroughly disheartened and not as saddened as I should have been when Reagan swept his butt.
The thing about Anderson is he pulled votes out of the Carter camp. Johnson's votes may very well may come at Obama's expense (but TBH I'm guessing Johnson is a non-factor).
You know, I don't want to say that a certain pseudo-libertarian has a cult of personality thing going for him, but... It is rather telling that that the actual libertarian is being largely ignored while the pseudo-libertarian is getting all the fanboys and will ultimately endorse Mitt Romney.
Ron and Rand Paul are selective libertarians, the son much worse than the father. Johnson is a truer libertarian.
A game changer? I love Gary Johnson but he won't be on the ballot here in Georgia and frankly I'd rather see Obama voted out then waste my vote on a non candidate.
First, Johnson is on the ballot in all 50 states. Second, Georgia is voting for Mitt no matter what. You vote is a waste as it is. How about you just do what you think is right.
I saw the thread title, and I thought Gary Johnson was releasing a new record this year on vinyl. What a disappointment.
One of the hallmarks of the post 1972 LP is their ability to get on 45+ states each year. Getting all 50 is a testament to their organizational success. Now if only they'd start running more Senate candidates.

I thought you were pushing Bloomberg for President, which always seemed odd given your libertarian philosophy? If I got that wrong my apologies.
I go for competence first and ideology second. If any president can do for America what Bloomberg has done for NYC they can outlaw soda and steal a third term for all I care
