I know he committed two fouls in the space of 60seconds - both penalties but got away with one - but showed a lot of class and made numerous interceptions against a rampant united. still only young but i definitely think centre back is his best position. from an irish point of view he offers an extra edge in attack coming forward for set pieces. could form a decent partnership with o'shea (if richard dunne is finished). speaking of o'shea, another good game and i'm sure mmc was watching. a first competitive start cannot be far away. as for robbie...didn't get a decent supply of ball and had to drop very deep. needs somebody to play quality one-two touches with him. he looked frustrated at times and tried to do everything himself. his class still shone through and didn't go unnoticed by the watching masses.
"speaking of o'shea, another good game and i'm sure mmc was watching". I'm afraid MmC wasn't watching as he attended the West Ham - Man. City game. I have no idea what brought him to there seeing as there wasn't a single Irish player in either squad.
Re: Re: Gary Doherty Much as I am loathe to call Gary Breen a player, that's what he is, and he played for the Hammers.
i can't believe mmc chose gary breen over seeing 3 irish starlets playing in the biggest game of the weekend. john o'shea must pose one of his biggest selection headaches at the moment. he at least owes the guy a trip to old trafford to see what his can produce.
Doherty hasn't produced his pre injury form of last year but hopefully he will settle down and do it, he and O'Shea are such perfect foil for each other too. I agree central defence is his best position, he will also pose a huge goal threat anyway on set peices, so is ALWAYS liable to nick a goal, his two international goals have come through set peices, so it doesn't matter what position he plays in he's a goal threat and a good defender too if he gets his best form back.
What about Newcastle v Sunderland Given Obrien Trigger Butler (as it happens didn't play) Babb Kilbane Quinn (For Nostalgia purposes!!!) Whether he went to Old Trafford or St James it does seem a little odd that he chose Upton Park, though he was sat with Sven, must be rumour in that somewhere!!
He was on goals on sunday too, and basically said O'Shea hasn't a chance of starting a match for us too soon (Though not in those words). Typical.
The man is a cretin..plain and simple...I presume he'll start Kilbane(cos he's never let him down before and just because he's goin through a bad patch does'nt effect him on the international stage...blah blah blah)
