The City of San Jose and Major League Soccer have signed a Letter of Intent which provides a wide variety of support elements, including a stadium financing plan, to attract a local investor for an MLS expansion team in San Jose as early as 2007. The details of the Letter of Intent will be voted on at a future San Jose City Council meeting. The Earthquakes name, colors and competition records have been retained by MLS for this future expansion team. So why wasn't this done now instead of in the future. I'm confused.
so all the players move to Houston for 2006, SJ gets an expansion in 2007...what happens to the players?
Even if we get a team in '07, it's going to suck seeing a half-assed expansion team getting its ass handed to it by OUR team.
I'm confused as well. Although this may be MLS way of telling certain markets (KC), no stadium, no team.
I would have to say that this supports the suspicion that the stumbling block to keeping the past Quakes here was AEG's insistance that they control any SSS that might come into being.
said the same thing at the Supporters Summit basically he said it was inconceivable that there wouldn't be a team there in the upcoming years
So let me see if I get this right . . . They are talking to potential owners in the Bay Area and have a deal worked out with the City to help come up with a solution, but have opted instead to move the team to a City where they have no place to play and no owners. I call bs.
Let's face it. AEG wanted to go to Houston. That's the long and short of it. Either they were going to do it via moving the Quakes or via expansion. But they wanted to be there RIGHT NOW. And now they are.
Uses the Cleveland example Yeah, and the Ravens won a Super Bowl a couple years after moving while the Browns suck to this day. ********
