hi guys- thought i would post this ... i was just talking with my mom and she was reading today's chinese newspaper (ming pao daily) and i saw that the front page had a picture of gao hong at the top. so i asked my mom to read the article to me (cause i can only read pretty much every few words in chinese) and it was part one of an interview done with gao (tomorrow will be part 2) basically ... the gist: she's here in toronto and it talks about how she had to do a major surgery. it didn't say what the surgery was, but the headline on the front page read something to the sort that gao has cancer. i think they will dicuss that more in the 2nd part of the interview. this first part talked about how she's one of the most recognizable chinese soccer players, and talks about how she worked really hard to make the 2003 wwc roster for china, but ulaimtely failed to do so. she sorta reflects back on her career too and in general she seemed upbeat, positive and always with her trademark smile. i'm looking forward to reading the next part, as it was really vague today in regards to her health, and hopeuflly it's nothing too serious. elaine
Thanks for the news. I was wondering what had become of her. I hope she's doing better. Cancer's no joke. (Been there, done that.) Any news on Part 2??
whoops ... slipped my mind to post about the second part. part two actually didn't reveal more details in her health etc ... it just said that her 'major surgery' went well and that she is recovering well etc. it focused more on the fact that gao is now taking some classes at york university (here in toronto) and working on a sports management degree and hopes to go to europe soon for a job/internship (something to that sort) before going back home to china and hopefully using her skills in china ... that was pretty much it! she seems happy and i wish her the best!! i just might swing by york to visit some friends and see if i can run into her! lol elaine
Any more news about Gao? If you do happen to see her, please let her know that her Norwegian friends in San Diego wish her all the best.
