For Christmas I am going to get a game console, but don’t know which one to ask for. I will mostly play sports games, Fifa 2004, Madden 2004, golf, baseball, a racing game and a flying/ pilot game, something in space, NO role playing. I am leaning towards GameCube because of the price, but if GameCube is crap for my needs compared to the other 2 (PS2 or Xbox) the extra $80 is no problem Which console is the best or which one would you recommend? Thanks guys.
If I ever went for a console because of wanting games on it the Xbox would be second choice. Behind the Sega Master System. Given how you have presumably posted this message, you probably already have the potentially best games system around.
I have Playstation 1, and have not used it in a while. And I am interested in get an up to date console. I just listed the game I would get regardless of which console I buy. I would like some advice, don't know which one to buy, thanks.
The Sega Master System is what the Sega Genesis was called in Japan and Europe - similarly to how the Nintendo system was called the Famicom (and the Super Nintendo was called the Super Famicom) in Japan. It was in the era of the Playstation and the Nintendo 64 that the console-names were finally standardized worldwide. -G
PS2, X-Box or the Cube OK, so aside from my day job, I freelance video game reviews for a magazine. I have all three systems and earlier this year I did a breakdown of the three. So here's my take. Based on what you want to do, primarily sports games the choice is between PS2 and X-Box. The X-box has more power in terms of graphics, I won't bog you down techno jargon, but this isn't an opinion its based on processor power etc. With an X-box you get a built in hard-drive which means you don't have to buy a memory card, like you will with PS2. With X-Box however, it isn't DVD capable out of the box, you have to buy an remote control in order to engage DVDs, PS2 is DVD ready straight out of the box no extras to buy. PS2 has by far a wider range of titles. You can't get Winning Eleven 6 on X-Box only PS2. Also most of the EA sports games will be online only with PS2. The PS2 controller is much better than the X-box controller, example running the option in College football games is fluid on PS2's L2 and R2 buttons and awkward on the X-Box. Those are things to consider. at the end of the day I would suggest PS2, but consider the factors mentioned above. I would never buy both a PS2 and an X-Box as the X-Box is essentially a PS2 clone. Anyone looking to own more than one system should have either the PS2 or X-box and the GameCube as their 2nd system, but that is a whole other discussion. I actually like the GameCube a lot, but because of it's exclusive titles and compatibility with the GBA SP, but sports games play out better on the other two systems. Hope that helps and it's not to long winded.
Well, IMHO DVD playback is no reason to buy a Game Console, get a cheap DVD player then. Xbox has more original titles. For Sports Gaming, if you like Tennis Top Spin is excellent. The only drawback is EA wants to charge a seperate fee for Online Games, which Sony allows because they have NO Contigious Online Service. I prefer Xbox due the graphics, hardware, sound, no memory card, and personal Soundtracks.
well if you like soccer games then get s PS2 as it has the most and the best soccer games. but for everything else the xbox is better. and I prefer microsoft's "s" controller to the ps2 controller. Don't get a gamecube because it looks like Sega SPorts has stopped making games for them.
Thanks for all your help, everyone! I am going with XBox, it was a close call but it seems that Xbox gets the majority of the backing, again thanks a lot guys.
Great choice, just like yourself in the beggining I got my Xbox just to play sports games, Fifa, Madden, Nba Live. Awesome graphics, fast load times, built in hard drive. And don't forget to save a little time for a small game called "HALO". Soon you'll learn what a "system link LAN Party" is. No other console can even get close to duplicating it. Hail to to the Master Chief. Enjoy your Xbox.
PS2 all the way. Its all about games and PS2 has the best games. Gamecube would be second, and last (of course) is XBox.
Bad choice. Trust me, coming from the brother of a sales person at Toys R Us in the video game department, the last system you want to get is XBox. It crashes, lack of good games, and finacial issues dealing with Microsoft, you'd be stupid to get an XBox.
Do we have to go over this again? The XBox does not crash. There are lots of great games for the XBox. Microsoft is one of the most financially sound companies in the world, and they are NOT going to kill off the XBox. Xbox Revenues Better than Expected PS2 Sales at a Major Decline in Japan If you like the PS2 better, fine. Don't get an XBox. But please stop spreading lies about the XBox. I don't care who your brother is nor where he works. He's wrong. BTW, you never did post the title, author and ISBN of the book that tells how horribly the XBox is doing. I'd love to read it.
Microsoft and IBM Announce Technology Agreement Yeah, the XBox is dead. Somebody tell IBM what a huge mistake they're making.
purely anecdotal but I find lots of people have problems with the PS2 and disc read errors. It;s easy to fix but you have to open it up which voids the warranty. I don't this is just a problem with people I know either because TechTV has a whole page devoted to it and when I first took my PS2 in to get fixed I noticed about 100 others that needed to be fixed in the shop. No joke, seriously a large desk full of ps2's were sitting there to get repaired. I've not met one person who had to take thier xbox to get fixed. I've never had one incident with mine. Now as for games, that argument doesn't really wash anymore. You've got killer games for all systems now. Gamecube has Metroid Prime but xbox has some of the best games around, which I bring up alot in this forum. Halo, Steel Battalion, Grand Theft Auto 3/VC, MLS Extratime 2002, Superman: The Man of Steel, Soul Calibur 2, ESPN NBA Basketball, Madden 2004, SPlinter Cell...and the max payne games are rated much higher on the Xbox than the Ps2. I like the ps2 quite a bit, I'm just saying the "no good games" argument doesn't hold water. As for sales, come one JMM - the xbox is selling extremely well, everyone I know has one. Xbox2 has already been anounced and the specs are gonna be released in early '04.
I never said XBox wasn't selling, I said it wasn't making money. And I know a lot of people who traded in their XBox because it crashed far to often. I've seen it happen, and its frustrating. As far as your "disc read errors", never seen one before.
Really? What about these tidbits of wisdom? So none of these posts imply that eventually the XBox is going to be gone because it wasn't selling? Backpedal much? How many is a "lot of people?" And explain exactly what you mean by the XBox crashing. The PS2 is a great system. I admit that. So is the XBox. And I will continue to counter you every time you say the XBox is a piece of crap.
To be fair, the PS2 disc read errors I believe have been removed in newer model PS2s. If not you can contact Sony if you continuously have that problem and they'll fix it for free. You will Have to Send your PS2 to them (they have a place in Pennsylvania, I don't know about anywhere else)
None of those posts implied the XBox wasn't selling, those posts implied that the XBox wasn't making money. How hard is it to understand? If you have a product that is selling a lot, but you lose money anyway, how long will you have that product on the market? (see the Seinfield episode where Kramer and the mailman try to figure out a way to bring bottles to Michigan to cash them in for the extra 5 cents.)
So you weren't advising against buying an XBox because they were "going the way of the Dreamcast" (or whatever nonsense you were spewing)? So you weren't advising against buying an XBox because you and your brother (who must be a top level executive at Toys R Us) heard that XBox wouldn't be available soon? Sorry, I stand corrected. The XBox will stay on the market until Microsoft either: 1. goes out of business 2. discontiues the XBox Neither of those events are likely to happen in the forseeable future. Again, how many people do you know who have traded in their XBox "because it crashed far to often?" What do you mean by crashing?
Do you read what you want to read? HOW FRICKIN HARD IS IT TO UNDERSTAND? Xbox loses money, no matter what. Business courses will teach you if you have a product that loses money, chances are the product wont survive on the market. Common sense then says "hey, Xbox loses money, even though its backed by a billion dollar company, it could go under", and then common sense also says "Sony hasn't had any losses, and Nintendo isn't in the red, plus they have the same games, i wonder which is a better investment". When the heck did I say Xbox would not be available? Mike, don't bother me with you incoherant crap and stop twisting my words around. I present the facts and you don't want to accept them.
