Not sure if the Seaport San Diego project is still happening, with that vaguely Space Needlesque tower. Is there room down there for an SSS?

I don't think it's ownership of the stadium, it's control of the revenues that the MLS team would need.

Yup thats the way I read it to, which SDSU is prepared to do as long as maintenance cost are shared too.

The best possible scenario would be for the NWSL team to head up an MLS expansion bid with Loyal. Getting things built here in San Diego is a nightmare and there really isn't much room anymore in the center of the city (the sports arena seems to be spoken for and I don't think the bay has anymore room now that the life sciences park is supposed to be built).

It doesn't mention working with the Loyal because the Loyal want their own stadium.

Could there be bad blood? Sure I wouldn't put it past Mark Z to hold a grudge but to be honest.....Loyal isn't playing in Snapdragon anytime soon. They want to get their own stadium and will go down that route for the foreseeable future IMO.

I agree, but if Loyal don't get their Midway stadium I don't see where they go other than Snapdragon. It's hard to tell when that confirmation would come either way though so maybe one more year at Torero while the city process plays out? Or maybe do a short term deal to play one year at Snapdragon while their Midway thing is under construction? Who knows?

So the apparent "news" that there's an investment group pushing for MLS now, tells me that this new group isn't working with Loyal, which would inevitably lead to bad blood between those front offices if there isn't already.

I think it goes without saying that Zeigler is holding a grudge against Landon/Loyal. The man hasn't written one story about them in* years.

Not a Zeigler fan and wish he gave up the Aztec BBall gig so I wouldn't have to read him :D

As for MLS and Loyal....I'd say that they are probably involved but are an outsider. They need a major investor and not sure the current ownership wants to lose majority unless Midway doesn't pan out.

Multiple sources have told the Union-Tribune that an investment group led by an Egyptian billionaire has been regularly meeting with MLS to bring a team to San Diego. The team could be playing at San Diego State’s Snapdragon Stadium as soon as 2024.

Hope it's not another Lucy holding the football situation but this one seems to be legit.

From what I understand the proposed MLS San Diego ownership group is in the process of negotiating a part ownership stake with SDSU in Snapdragon Stadium. Additional the expansion fee is set at 350M and they are looking at Chargers Park as their training grounds. This appears to the final hold-ups with MLS granting the 30th franchise to San Diego.
