I don't have a link, and I haven't updated my rolodex to keep my Hollywood contacts current, but I seem to remember reading that they were done with the movie, but that they were more likely to release it in 2006, right around the World Cup, or maybe earlier so that the DVD version would come out when the Cup starts. Just a guess. If that scenario is accurate, the failure to qualify means "straight to DVD" for this one.
If we qualify I would not be shocked if "somehow" we land in the same group as England in order to promote the movie.

--It's a nice diversion from their full-time work of sabotaging American soccer so it never reaches its full, Europe-crushing potential.
Patrick Stewart? They got the wrong Enterprise Captain. Shatner would've been better. Well, like odg suggests, this is a step up from FIFA and CONCACAF rigging draws to ruin movies and thereby assure that American soccer continues to struggle against raging indifference at home and blind jealousy abroad.
Who controls the British Crown? Who keeps the metric system down? We do! We Do! Who keeps Atlantis off the map? Who keeps the Martians under wraps? We do! We Do! Who holds back the electric car? Who made Steve Guttenburg a star? We do! We Do! Who robs the crayfish of their sight? Who rigs every Oscar night? We do! We Do! (Sorry, had to be done)
