I notice this is a term used in MLS in their boxscores when specifying the type of infraction that warranted the card (i.e. Convey in the 56th minute of the DC-Dallas Game on 5/31). This apparently differs from dissent, since that word is specifically used. Is this term what the MLS uses to refer to offensive language?

It could also refer to an offensive gesture. I can think of several that would apply. :)

In the case of Convey it was for hurling the ball at Chad Deering who had just hacked him down. He was lucky it was a laissez faire referee, because frankly he should have been sent off.
