Look for large parts of the game Argentina had the run of the play and dictated the whole pace of the match, if it were not for the incredible stupid selection of such a dumb defence and the incredible stupidity in an obvious lack in training on how to defend Brasils free kicks we would be 1-1 in the score line, heck even the last Brasil goal would have been defended better by a better defence. The lack of Lopez starting with Messi or Milito , the lack of changing to a 4-3-3 earlier, the lack of using players like Samuel, Garay, Fazio, Gonzalo Rodriguez, Zabaletta, Higuain, Aimar, Roman, is what got us in the end and the fault is 50% Diego's and 50% the AFA's!!

we must now hope that bolivia can top ecuador in la paz wednesday. then, we need uruguay and colombia to play out a draw. maradona must do everything in his power to set up the team in an organzed manner to at least get a draw in asuncion. i don't care if its an ugly 0-0 draw, but we must get a point out of the match. we're looking at the possibility of having a play off against mexico or costa rica. missing out on the play off is a possibility. right now, the top 3 are in for all intents and purposes. colombia, ecuador, uruguay and even venezuela could over take us still. maradona MUST do all he can to atleast get a point.

It's way too late, to discuss whose time it is and who can be added. The only players who could be added are Higuain and Zarate. Some players that are competing for certain spots in friendlies and competition have to be looked at. The only thing that needs to be overhauled is the defence and Cambiasso should be brought in to help Mascherano, using two defensives midfielder. It's worked our game before, we are strong that way, and trying different combinations is too late now.

We need to go with a consitent team the next 3 games, qualify and then try to work out the kinks in World Cup preperation games. That's all we have left to FIX ourselves, Brazil through a pragmatic approached is solid. They are not perfect, but they got their shit together just in time. Argentine look like a bunch of Gallina's with their heads chopped off, ideally, it's the Bostero's who are making the rounds on this one.

 

Why is it so hard to be an Argentine supporter? It has been a long time since I have enjoyed being a fan of this team.

There is no way that we should be in this position, struggling for qualification into a tournament we should be preparing to win.

It was during the qualification for Germany 2006, in September of 2005 when I was last confident and impressed by the national team. That 3-1 victory against Brazil in Buenos Aires was inspirational and a rallying point for Pekerman's team heading into the WC. I was hoping for a similar result last night, but the experience was quite the opposite.

Perhaps we do need to miss the South African World Cup next summer and hope that it leads to serious change in the way the AFA handles the national team program?

Just go to Argentina and talk politics and the economy and see what "changes" have happened in the last 50 years..... NONE, why would our AFA change anything? These guys don't give a rats arse about you or the fans elsewhere as long as their pockets keep getting filled by them doing next to nothing all will remain status quo.

 

He still makes some very dumb decisions but he's definitely maturing as a player. In Spain we've seen glimpses of his skill but he's been inconsistent. I think this will be his breakout season in La Liga and he'll play a good role with Valencia.

I think what Messi is missing in Argentina jersey is a Xavi (Riquelme ) and an Iniesta (like Buonanotte, or any other player not lacking creativity and highspeed football) creating and passing for him and to him.

Riquelme was the key. Messi was great for the National Team at the olympics and the copa america. the difference then, was that messi could play as a forward, while roman distributed the ball. last night leo was trying to beat brazil alone. I know it probably won't happen, but I would give anything to see the three 10's, messi, diego, and roman put their differences and egos aside in order for riquelme to return to la seleccion. I think most people on this board, and around the world, thought argentina were the best team in the world only a year ago. Then, we were fresh off our olympic triumph and riquelme was still playing well.
Roman aside, we have our destiny in our own hands (or maradonas). If we can get a point from paraguay, i have no doubt that we will beat peru at home. then it all comes down to the match in montevideo. we must still support the team no matter what though. I;ll never forget what Scolari said after winning the world cup in 2002: winning the world cup was easy compared to getting there" anything is possible if we can just manage to get through. the good news is that god forbid we go to a playoff, mexico won't be our opponent, but costa rica. their pitch is shit, but i'd rather play there than in the azteca.

Well what can I say, La Seleccion went down like a warrior. Brazil attacked 3 times and scored 4 goals so to speak. Either way, the team walked off the field with a full house of applause and cheers.

Either way cheers to the Brazilians and for having learned how to defend.

Btw, the stadium was rocking! Amazing displaying of passion and love for La Seleccion.

Don't know what to say. I blame the coach, clear as day. A article on GOAL.Com talked about Maradona's is excluding players that should be called. I am a bit tired of all of this. Can not win a game at home? We were lucky to get a point vs Ecuador when they came and faced us. I just don't know. Last few games we have only put away 3 goals. What do I see happening in Asuncion, I just hope we can come away with a point. 3 will be great, but I will not hold my breath. Colombia/Ecuador are right behind us. We are lucky Venz did not win so, 3 teams would of had 20 points. Time to FIRE MARADONA and bring back Pekerman.

 

Prior to the goal, I left that Datolo was the man to sub out. He left slow and like a fish out of water but then in the second half, he scored a screamer.

Heinze from what I was able to see played very well. Rather it was Zanetti that left much to be desired, but I still have to watch the game on TV.

I'm still reeling from my flight to BA then the 4 hour drive to Rosario and back. Basically travelling for 48 hours, now I'm off to check out BA.

PS. At least everyone that was supposed to lose, lost. We are still in 4th place and with the same chances as before the game. Now off to Paraguay.

 

If Riquelme doesn't return, is Zarate the only player that could make our freekicks dangerous again? If so, he has to start.

 

We were having the same problems with Basile. They are now just being accentuated because we are getting close to the end of the WCQ.

the most frustrating part of watching the game was that maradona said he called palermo because we needed a tall player to compete with lucio and luisao in the air. after saying this, he starts tevez. then, our players send countless crosses para nadie. there was no one in the box. i hope lopez starts next game, i have faith that we get a goal.
