Charlotte having a rough go to the start of 2023. But not nearly as badly as RSL!

I don't have much to say other than I think we do better in this one. We lose 2-0. :(

Thanks for taking the lead this week. I have been rather unsuccessful commenting us to victory.

Charlotte is on a 3 game no loss streak with their season to date record being L L L W D D so definitely headed in an ever more slightly upward trajectory than RSL.

When you have lost 4 in a row in rather dramatic and rollover type fashions every game turns into quite the referendum on the state of the team.

I have zero idea what happens on Saturday but leaning towards more of the same. Nothing in what we have seen from RSL so far this season shows that they have nay idea how to get back to winning ways.

    3-1 RSL What the heck.

Our top scorer this season so far is one of our CBs. Let's get creative. Here's my proposed starting lineup:

    Dami

    Julio Gomez Luna Sava

    Ruiz Ojeda Eneli

    Silva Glad MacMath
Couldn't be a lot worse than what we've been doing.

IF, big if, Silva is healthy, I want to see something like this (3-4-3):
    (Right to Left)
    MacMath
    Glad Silva Vera
    Eneli Luna Ruiz Brody
Gomez (pick your center forward) Sava

Gives you Oviedo, backup CB, Ojeda, Jasper, Chang, Meram, Damir and a bunch of forwards to choose from.

I think Brody is better served in a more advanced role, especially if he's playing on the left. I hope having a 3rd CB helps in the middle of the field, because I'm not convinced Luna and Ruiz is enough, but I really want to see Luna in the middle of the field.

3-5-2 is harder to do (I think) will all the wingers on this roster.

    MacMath
    Glad Silva Vera
    Eneli Ruiz Luna Ojeda Brody
Sava? and Forward of your choice?

Amazing to me that a guy like Eneli who really shouldn't be starting in MLS walks right into our XI and is on everyone's projected lineup. Because who else is there?

    Pretty much.
I'm not sure I like Oviedo if it's a back 3. Back 4, sure he starts for me, putting Brody on the right. I'm trying to address the middle of the field issues and hoping a back 3 does it.

Tell me why this team shouldn’t play a 352

My take: Wingers on the roster are among the best players on the team and don't have a history of helping much defensively. However, it would probably suit Damir (can play him late as a forward or this "10" role he's been playing), Luna and all the forwards on the team. However, it seems that Brody, Hidalgo and Eneli are the best fits at wingback, maybe Chang. So there's almost no depth at wingback and there's almost no depth at CB.

So if Sava goes and you think you can fit Gomez into it, sure it's worth trying.

I think the 3-4-3 suits the roster a bit better, but I do struggle with the central midfield pairing.

    My thought process:

    • A 4 man midfield doesn’t work with the CMs in this roster. RSL just gets absolutely destroyed through the middle.
    • The sacrifice needs to happen from this bizarre wingback approach Pablo has and put another body in the middle.
    • This means a return to the back 3 setup, but leveraging actual CB type players to do it (Silva, Glad, and Vera)
    • Brody becomes odd man out, or gets converted to more of a winger (what he played more through the academy if I remember right)
    • Middle 3 for me are ojeda Ruiz and then Loffelsend or Caldwell…. Good god our midfield options suck
    • Wide players are Gomez and most likely Sava unless he gets moved to a forward role
    • I’d put Luna and one of the many underwhelming forwards we have including Kreilach up top

I like the 3-5-2 assuming we have the personnel to really do the five right, and with Kreilach, Luna, and Meram we probably do.

Maybe we should play Glad in the #9 position.

Yep. Imo the group I know least about is the ownership group. The longer we stink with no changes the more I know...

One of my favorite RSL traditions is, after a win at home, doing a re-watch on TV afterwards to relive the action and hear the commentary I missed.

Can't remember the last time I got to do this.

Are we going to stick with tradition and lose 4-0 again?

In this case, Charlotte isn't as good as those teams so 2-0 seems more likely to me.

Kreilach-sized hole in that line up & bench!
I didn’t hear, is he injured?

edit: no Holt & Caldwell either.

Holt is returning from injury. Damir wasn't on the report the other day.
Not too surprised when Pablo says they're going back to basics. They'll have to change the plan if they're going with a two man midfield.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen vehicle tracks on our pitch before.
