This guy letting us keep playing is really odd. Against all expectations from half one, that was a decent game for the final hour.
I guess that was a pretty entertaining game. I'm getting more and more convinced we could be a better team with a different coach.
Good deal they waited until the rain hit to start the game, instead of playing earlier in that icky 70 degree sunshine.
Bummer. A tie would have eliminated SJE from the playoffs, as we'd have the wins tiebreaker on them even if we lost and they won their game next week. A win next week still guarantees us a playoff game.
Jamie Watson’s color commentary was spot on. RSL has no idea what to do in transition. We’d dispossess Seattle, make a bunch of meaningless passes until Seattle’s defense had reset, and then try and attack the goal. It was so frustrating to watch. Breakaways would fall apart due to a poor first touch, and then we’d recycle it back to the defense and start over. I always want RSL to make the playoffs, but we’ll be bounced in the first round and missing the playoffs may force RSL to make changes instead of saying the season was a success.
Big missed opportunity for RSL tonight and anyone on the club that missed an opportunity to make an impact in the game and make a statement. Better second half for sure but they definitely whiffed on the starting lineup with Piol.
I think a fitting end to the season would be to make the play in game, host it, and then lose in spectacular fashion (choose your own adventure how). RSL still has a decent talent deficit, but the tactics aren't working either. I don't know if that means just a new coaching staff or if Jason will completely clean house.
Pablo was quite critical of some players in the first half. He didn’t name them but also said there were subs at halftime, so the finger was pointed. He said some guys had an opportunity to earn more playing time and blew it. He said they didn’t give effort in any phase of the game. He went on to say that if a player hasn’t been getting regular play minutes it can be difficult to suddenly be called upon and play well - - - but it’s no excuse. You have to be ready.
