So is this thread really needed? RSL has 3 wins in 12 tries against LAFC and hasn't looked like they are even in the same league with the Black and Gold for most of the match ups. BUT LAFC has not been in good form either and they have a mid week game against Tigres on Wednesday. Doubtful they are worried about RSL but I wouldn't put it past RSL to beat LAFC and then go on lose the rest of their games. Their weird like that. I expect RSL to land between 47-49 points and finish 5-8th in the west. Just don't see how they don't make the playoffs now but I'm sure they can find a way.
@ LAFC Oct. 1st vs SKC Oct. 7th @ LAG Oct. 14th @ Crapids Oct. 21st 4pts from the remaining 4 should be the basement level expectation, or 47pts. That's 1W, 1T, and 2L. Seems likely. With our defense lately, LAFC is going to score too many on us to make it competitive. We will lose.
I'm selfishly wanting RSL in the 8/9 game. They can get an extra home game if they are 8th and probably win that one. Then they'll get a best of 3 series with STL. I think they can be competitive in that series, plus I can attend the one in STL. I bet 4 more points gets them higher than 8th though. A series with HOU at 4/5 would be interesting. I guess I need to watch them more lately. I still think of them as not that good, but I know they are convincing more knowledgeable people that they are good. I want no part of SEA or LAFC in the playoffs. POR/VAN are winnable series.
I agree. 4 points seems right but seems optimistic. Looking at the standings it's wild that six teams have clinched a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference while only one team has clinched in the West. 6 points separate the 2nd seed from the 9th seed in the West. The next couple of weeks should be interesting to see how teams shift up and down, and Decision Day could end up being a wild day.
Is it just me or has the interest in this team just dropped off since the start of the Leagues Cup and the losing? Vancouver, San Jose, Portland, could all jump RSL in the standings before the game even starts on Sunday. FCD could draw even in points with RSL as well. Not all of that will happen, knock on wood, but an RSL team that feels any pressure whatsoever seems to fold up like cheap card table. So it will be definitely interesting to see how things play out for them in this game. LAFC is absolutely ripe for the picking and RSL should have a definite chance to nick a win or result against a team that has only won 3 of their last 13 outings. I'm actually expecting RSL to do well which I find hard to believe but it would just like them to beat LAFC and then choke down the stretch.
I'm usually a glass-half-full guy, but on the other hand, with a win, RSL could jump ahead of LAFC, Seattle and Houston. A lot would have to fall into place for us to get there, but weirder things have happened. It'll be fun to see who we end up starting. It's doubtful that everyone will be on the same page and unfortunately we'll probably be looking at a 4-4-2 again, but to goob's point, by tomorrow night, we could be anywhere from 2nd to 9th in the standings. Quite a year.
I don't think interest has dropped off, but expectations have changed. I ask my kids who's ready for an emotional roller coaster before each game and they politely decline and walk away. But to be fair they've always done that... But this board has been awfully quiet lately. So maybe you have a point.
Still in Germany and debating another 2:00am wake up call. But I would put money on me watching. I like some of you believing we can get a result but I do not see it.
I will be working during the game - my advisory board comes to town and we have a dinner planned. And with an all-day meeting and an early morning drive Monday, it'll be highlights only for me.
Game day! Results yesterday were pretty ideal for RSL. They have a chance to be tied for 2nd tonight. How's everyone feeling? LAFC is coming off a midweek loss to Tigres. What to expect from them?
Results were ideal in RSL didn’t get jumped by any other teams, but any breathing room is gone. Two points separate spots 5 - 9. RSL needs a tie or win tonight.
So much for the 8pm start. Going to be about 20 minutes later than normal. Another tweak to the starting lineup. Sava up top with Chicho.
Maybe he’s going on strike until the organization gets rid of Gomez. He was visibly disgusted with Gomez’ dribble and shot a minute earlier. I don’t blame him.
