I'm going to try and do this all season. I'll stick the pregame thread during the week going into the game. After the game, someone start ONE post game thread and the first mod to come along can sticky it for a couple of days until the conversation dies down. Then we can start the new pregame thread for the next match. I'm hoping to organize the official match threads and keep the discussion about them going through the weeks. Also, if its at the top, some moron wont come in and start a whole new thread asking about the upcoming game for their fantasy roster or some crap like that. Any other suggestions are more than welcome. My take on the DC match: Reyes is done, leaving a big hole in DC's backline. KC is all the sudden scoring goals. Wolff will play his first full game, Igor will be back out. This one looks pretty easy on paper. KC 3-0 DC Meola Conrad-Garcia-Burciaga Talley-Gomez Klein-Preki-Gutierrez Wolff-Simutenkov Just a reminder to those that havent stood in the Cauldron that are interested. Come to parking lot B5 (that also includes the traveller from the SE in DC) before the game to tailgate. Set in section 114 to sing and chant during the game. See you all next weekend!
Good idea, Ben. Will there be a separate thread during the game too? I am thinking of our away games especially, not quite pbp, but certainly updates on scores as someone gets them. I guess for people out of town they would want that for home matches also.
Re: Re: Game 1: KC vs. DC Pregame thread How about someone start one right before/during the match. We use it during the game, but it gets closed by a mod as soon as possible after the match. I dont mind in game threads, but often times that thread rivals a coexisting post game thread. As long as they are separate and we keep pre and post game discussions together I'm cool. But it will be closed as soon as possible after the game is actually over.
Re: Re: Re: Game 1: KC vs. DC Pregame thread Sounds like a plan. I can see with all the FSW/Metrosports matches we are on, those with FSW?Metro could give pretty good updates to those that don't have it
K.C. v. D.C. I plan to attend the match with my 12 year old son. Since he is an autograph collector, our question is where and when is the best place to get player and coach autographs? He would like autographs from guys like Josh Wolf, Earnie Stewart et al. Any advice would be appreciated. I predict a 2-1 Wizards victory. I believe the Wizards will be one of the surprise teams of the 2003 season. They will finish second in the Western Conference.
Finally, the season starts for us. DC has a lot too worry about this time around. Pope being traded and Reyes being out, means easy pickins for the Wizards offense. First look on Earnie Stewart in an MLS game. Too bad it is going to be against one hell of a defense. It is going to be a huge crowd, hopefully a loud crowd. The Yard is in its premier and Chant sheets are in place. So hopefully it is a organized crowd as well. First impressions are critical. I am going out on a limb and saying 4-1. I like our offense. Crowd- 25,028
Re: K.C. v. D.C. There is usually a post-match party where players give autographs. Not so sure about the DC players attending that though. My two young 'uns (11 & 7) hang out near the tunnel and do quite well getting autographs.
Re: Re: K.C. v. D.C. After the game.... If you do so before the game you'll have a lot of pissed off regular fans that get sick of people coming in our section (the Cauldron) just to get autographs and stand in the way. Now if you're over there to stand and cheer the whole game, more power to you. Plus not very many players sign before the game. After the game though, we usually clear out of the way, or at least make room for people and the players stop by to sign a few autographs.
What time will you guys be out in B5?-I plan on stopping by before the game Saturday. I also plan on hanging with you guys sometime in either the first or second half, or hell maybe both!
Yay or nay on the keg? I think the cheapest is $60, so we'd need to guarantee about 20 people to cover it. Anyone know if the Screaming Eagles will actually be at our tailgate? If so, anyone got a #?
My question: Does Hristo play, and if so, what are we going to do to harass him about his tackle on Freddy Llerena? My prediction - 4-0 KC, 26,050 attendance. What's on the tailgate menu for this weekend?
Re: Re: Re: K.C. v. D.C. There are two sides to the tunnel Ben My kids have gone both sides and got equal results. When we do go in the cauldron we stay there for the whole match and if my 7 yr old gets in the way then you must be very short!!
Notes: >I'm in for the keg and hanging out in B5 first time. >Section 119 is right behind the vistors bench. If you find yourself in the stadium while the teams are warming up, visiting players many times come to the gate and sign autographs during that time. (They won't do it during and rarely after) Valderama used to do it alot and even Santos players when they were here. >Words for Hristo out of the tunnel... Break-a-leg Hristo!!! >Song for Hristo to the theme of Pat Benetar's - Heartbreaker: "You're a leg breaker, dream taker, old shaker you like taking out the teens."
Matt, Kent (our friend) and I are in on the keg. Spoon said he was. I'm sure you'll have plenty to cover it Jace.
The menu is still under discussion. Is anyone interested in bring a side dish? Dave (wizardscharter) had suggested that the menu get a little diversified this season, and I thought I'd test the waters to see who would like to show off their culinary skills. If you would like to donate a side dish or dessert to the tailgate, please post what you're bringing so we don't end up with 14 jello salads. I'm thinking about bringing some homemade salsa.
Is a grill going to be available for the game on the 26th? If so, I think I'm going to bring some veggies for grilling...
Im bringing a few friends, and they went to a comets game and loved being loud- but I explained to them that at the wizards games theres organized chants So looks like the cauldron will have 2 or 3 new guests for Saturday
Ben my dad isn't coming after all so your g/f will be safe. I am usually there 2-2 1/2 hour before game time. 2 hours is when people start to roll in.
you guys are likely to get 25K+, that is awesome. pretty strong opener i'd say. on the field i'd have to guess your lads are favored. we haven't look particularly good in preseason and apparently your team is in somewhat better form at the moment. however, i think (or hell at least hope) it isn't 4-0 as some of you suggest. i think we will be somewhat tougher on the road than our play last year. defense is a big concern going into the game, however it is where we have the most depth. ivanov and reyes are huge losses along with prideaux, but i think namoff, petke and nelsen can handle it. in a weird way it may actually strengthen us--it pulls nelsen from dmid and that i think will help us overall. frankly however my larger concern is offense. we haven't yet had a guy step up and grab that second spot. teams have double-teamed earnie and the front runner has failed to make anything of it. we haven't yet unleashed any kind of strong attack. while i find it somewhat unlikely we'll win my guess is we'll play you close, i am gonna say 2-1 to your side, though it wouldn't shock me if we got out with a draw. i would however love to see earnie make meola look bad...
I can bring baked beans. other suggestions are but not limited to..... develd eggs cole slaw mexican layer dip nacho cheese vegetables for grilling, onions peppers and mushrooms also helps if you bring wooden skewers(good idea roush) any deserts, I like pie If many people signup tables need to be included to set the stuff on.
