    Gallup: Bush Approval Soaring

A just-completed CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll shows that Americans overwhelmingly want the U.N. to take a tougher stance against Iraq, to pass a resolution demanding compliance with weapons inspections efforts, and to authorize military action if Iraq does not comply. More than seven in 10 Americans feel that Saddam Hussein will use weapons of mass destruction against the United States if military action is not taken. President Bush's job approval rating is now at 70%,

I hope I don't have to point out that the 4% bump is well within the margin of error. For all we know, a better poll with a larger sample might have found the approval rating has gone from 70% down to 66%.

    From the article:
    And
I just wanted to mention this poll, and include some quotes from the article, in case some conservative who thinks you are stupid and/or lazy comes in here and tries to convince you something significant has happened by pointing you to this article and using a silly verb like "soar."

I have that effect on people. (insert insipid smilie here)

(I would go to the trouble to point out that, if a 70 with a plus/minus four means that it COULD be 66, it COULD just as easily mean that it's a...oh, nevermind)

    You're right, it could.

My main thing is the completely misleading word "soaring." I mean, you contradicted what the writer said about it.

Somebody obejctive (that would be me) has to keep the crazy ideologues (that would be you, Bill) in line.

I'm sort of the truth detector of bigsoccer. :) ;)

I've taken to calling him bullet proof George. Maybe this could sway a few voters.

This is not a particularly interesting thing to poll on. Of course we want the UN to be tougher. The more interesting question would be, if the UN rejects the US position, whether Americans would support Bush thumbing his nose at the UN. I think they would, but not in "soaring" numbers...

The way I look at it is if the poll showed him at 66% last month, then he was probably at 62%. This month shows 70% so he's probably really at 74% right now. That's a soaring jump from 62% to 74% if you ask me!!! :)

p.s. Before you start giving me a lecture about margin of errors, know that I worked many years closely with the market research industry so I am well aware of how MOE's function and how easily they can be abused to manipulate results!

another cheap shot from the man who claims Clinton was a great President.

    http://www.attackonamerica.net/noamchomsky.htm

it's from one of those whacky left wingers too, not spme lunatic right winger.

So wu, next time you\re gonna bash Bush, try not to make it something that your own hero is guilty of as well.

I don't think Clinton was a great president but I do know that he was sucessful internationally, which is the primary role of the president. Most pundants, who refuse to look beyond the inappropriate sexual tirades, I'm sure find it a mystery how he was twice elected to the oval office in 3x elected governor of a conservative state.

Riddle me this, Ted, why is there a split b/w Carl Rowe(the real pres) and the state Department?

why did the predator drone get grounded for over a year, blinding our observation of Al-qeuda activity?

why are US & UN strained more than at any other time in history

why is the US economy at it's lowest production since Sr. occupied the whitehouse?

how did china embarrass the US by demanding an apology for our electronic eaves dropping 5/1/01

why does this man go to sleep @ 10pm instead of working thru the night like his predecessors.

why can't he build a consesus among his own party on a variety of issues (tax reform, military action, workers comp, etc).

answer: through his ineffective management & reactionary policies, he has allienated himself from all except the most right wing stalwarts that would elect a "yellow dog" if he had an elephant on his collar.

Next time you want to disagree w/ me do it w/ fact and reasoning rather than personal attacks. Buy a clue next time you're out or at least subscribe to a media outlet to formulate your opinions b4 you post. I guess coctail hour has already begun your way.

The key diff b/w your assessment & mine is that I try to read about something b4 a formulate an opinion and you buy into whatever line the grand old party is selling. Abre Tu Oros!

ps Lyndon B Johnson is my favorite president followed by Lincoln & Theo Roosevelt. Bob Dole said the same about LBJ a couple yrs back too. Not exacly leftist were they? I'm not sure if I've ever posted about clinton or said anything favorable about the man, but I will say he had a less traumatic 1st 2 yrs than GW. And he actually won his election.

Ask youself, are you better now than you were 4 yrs ago?

what the hell are you talking about anyway? I gave you a left wing source. too bad I am short on time, but I'll get back to this later. And where was the personal attack?

just a tip, there were key indicators of a recession before the election....so there you go.

and I am in fact better off now than I was 4 years ago.

What, that Clinton's administration bungled national security to a degree that made the 9/11 attacks possible?

Remind me again why Condoleeza Rice has a job today.

Dan.....Bush and Clinton both dropped the ball. That's my whole point to Wu, If you want I can give links to tons of articles about Clinton's security faliures, many from left wing sources.

Bush is just as bad, it's just Wu Tang's hipocrisy that I find fault in.

this is a bush bashing forum, get w/ the program, as for your contentiousness..." another cheap shot from the man who claims Clinton was a great President...So wu, next time you\re gonna bash Bush, try not to make it something that your own hero is guilty of as well. "
A down trend must occur for 2 consecutive quarters in order to be considered a recession. Only the final quarter in the Clinton admin was negative. Bush tried to paste the blame on him, but I attribute it to the restrictive lending of Greenspan in 98 and corp irresponsibility in the late 90's(including y2k buying sprees). The pres, I'll admit, has little to do w/ the economy aside from having sound planning in place beyond a non targeted tax break that has sent the country into deficit for the 1st time in 4yrs.
Good for you. So am I now that I've graduated, but the country as a whole has experienced high unemployment and roughly 62% of americans consider this to be an unfavorable market.

When november rolls changes across the land, i'll remind you of this simple quote from the '92 convention," It's the economy stupid!"

Superdave, I actually agree with you that the word "soar" doesnt accurately describe the increase. However I disagreed with you starting a new thread to point it out. Thankfully the mods agreed.
