Found this tidbit on the RAI teletext site. The location for August's season opening SuperCoppa match between Juve and Milan is being discussed. Sources in Tokyo say it will be there; it was held in Libya last year, and that remains the most likely possibility again. However, Galliani is quoted as saying ""New York sarebbe l'ipotesi più affascinante" (New York would be a more charming hypothesis). Of course, I think he's only semi-serious, perhaps just suggesting that's where they would prefer to visit.

Screw New York, bring it to Philly. We finally have a stadium suitable for soccer.

I really think he was being sort of fanciful. Between preseason NFL games and the MetroStars, it might be hard to book Giants Stadium for a prime date in August. When was that Roma-Real Madrid game played last year?

In addition to timing, there is the grass issue. Giants Stadum is FieldTurf. They are putting real grass in for ManU-Juve, but I doubt they can do it in August because of the NFL. They'll want no part of any changes to their field. Same issue with the possible Women's World Cup matches.

The SuperCoppa is slated to be the weekend of Aug 23-24.

Aug 23 - Jets at Giants (pre-season NFL)
Aug 24 - Chicago at MetroStars

Sort of puts paid to that idea.

BTW, the Roma-Real Madrid game was Aug 8 last year on real grass. That's about the latest they could do something like that before the grid guys take over, I imagine.

Thank God I decided against getting tickets for the ManU/Barca game in Philly because that game is on the same day as the Milan/Juve SuperCoppa. I wonder what time the game will be though. I assume it will be around 2:30pm since it's a Sunday and it will be primetime in Italy.
