Arsene Wenger has confirmed William Gallas will miss the rest of the season with a medial knee ligament injury.

Gallas deserves more respect. Ever since he lost the captaincy. He put his head down and was a rock in defense. Team will miss Gallas experience.

Almunia out a few weeks, Clichy out two weeks...everyone will have to step up. Hopefully Eduardo and RvP can get fit and stay fit the rest of the way.

And further down in the story...

Wenger admitted injury-plagued star Tomas Rosicky had suffered a setback in his bid to return to action.

Rosicky has not played since last January and Wenger concedes the midfielder is no closer to making his long awaited comeback.

    Inconceivable!!!!!!

Please don't take that as a knock on Tomas' character or desire to come back or anything -- I think he's a great player, and what has happened to him is a tragedy. But the course of this injury just makes me doubt that he'll ever be a professional athlete again. I hope I'm wrong.

We lose 3 of our first choice back 5 and still have 3 competitions to play in with everything on the line - I hate to say it but we may need to concede the FA cup and field a complete second string for that.

    nah, 2 weeks.
    3 games

    wigan
    villarreal - cl
    chelsea -fa cup

fairly standard length of time between games in April.
we will just have inferiour talent in a few positions.
the clichy injury is where i'm worried the most.
i think fabianksi will be fine, and i have confidence in djourou.

    Oh reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeely ??

cos I kinda see it as 2 weeks 5 games.

    7th CL
    11th Wigan
    15th CL
    18th FA Semi
    21st Liverpool

But then again, I'm too old to learn the new math.;):D

    no, i had it right.
everyone sans gallas is fit for liverpool (2 weeks).
we already played that first game, so 3 games.
i was assuming everyone was fit in 2 weeks.

You don't concede the FA Cup, Rewinder, when you are in the Semifinals already at Wembley.

Why the hell do we have so many injuries every single year? Ever hear of this method called stretching before a match? The Gallas loss is a big blow since I thought he has played great since losing the captaincy and has been very professional about it. Having said that, I think Djourou is more than capable of filling the role. Also, Gibbs has played brilliant in the times he has stepped in for Clichy so am not too concerned there either.

I don't think stretching would have helped Gallas much.

Gallas' injury was a freak injury... same with Almunia...

no clue how you can prepare against that happening, lol

Gibbs has been immense as of late. I think he deserves a start against Wigan and we can build from there. Honestly we can even play Song at CB and Toure as Left Back. We can also use dare I say Silvestre.

Ah...got ya. You were saying how many games would be played without
the injured players as of today.....and I was looking at the actual number of games played over this, and the following week.

Still kinda scares the bejeebers out of me that we could be faced with many more injuries with all the tough games that are coming up over the next two weeks.
It would be a real shame if we got to the CL semi with another large crop of injuries. But that's football, and I refuse to allow negativity to creep in before the event has occured.

What are the chances that Eboue slots in at the back over the next few weeks?

I'm going to be a little hesistant to field our strongest available team in the FA Cup 3 days before we make a trip to Anfield.

If things go well for us this weekend and we open up an 8 point lead over Villa, or things go badly on Wednesday, I'd probably be more prepared to throw everything we have at Chelsea in the semi final.

I'm worried about Gibbs, he's a great talent, but a couple defensive errors could cost us the season. That said, Sylvestre is just as worrying and slower. If Gibbs steps up in a big way, then we'll be okay, but the season could be riding on this kid's next couple performances. I think Djourou is good enough to fill in for Gallas.

Terrible news that Gallas is out for the rest of the season. Anyone know how long exactly he is out (ie months)? The longer he is out the harder the recovery is.

He's relatively old too, he could have trouble returning to tier 1 football. Either djourou steps in well and replaces Gallas completely, or we buy a new CB this summer, either way, its very possible the man has played his last game in an Arsenal shirt. I could see him going to play in france and retiring there after unless he can regain form and fitness.
