    exactly, they hate portugal. in fact most of europe looks down at the portuguese.

    Galician and Portuguese are very similar. They were the same language until the 15th century (Galician-Portuguese). They don´t want to be Portuguese (some want independence) but most are well aware of their cultural, ethnic and historical proximity to the northern Portuguese. We often refer to each other as the same people separeted by history. Now, for a laugh, the map of Portugal as it should be:

    This is not true. I never meet a Galician that hated Portugal, it is quite the opposite. And Europe dosen´t look down at the Portuguese, northern Europeans often look down at southern and eastern Europeans.
