The ticket prices for the LA Galaxy came out for next season and some fans were complaining due to a big increase in price. From what I understood the price jump was due to their new stadium that holds 27000. Eventhough DC isnt getting a new stadium next year will ticket prices increase? Galaxy are hosting the MLS Cup next year if you guys didnt know....
If and when we get a stadium, I for one will be happy to pay whatever for my seasons tickets. OT.....did anyone read the article in this past Sundays Post on courtside tickets for the Wizards games? $425.00 PER GAME Kinda puts things in perspective, don't you think?
Chico, Wizards courtside seats, first row WENT UP $425 from $325 to $750. My hockey, baseball and football attendance would drop as I would toss just about all my sports entertainment cash towards a pair of really nice seats should DCU get a new stadium. Bill-DC
Bill, you are correct sir. My bad. I knew it was something astronomical. And They aren't even the most expensive in the league!!
i think the price of DCU tickets is a huge part of their appeal to many people. i also think that the team knows that too. folks will have to realize, it you want something new and better, somebody has to pay for it. i am sure even with a substantial increase, United tickets will remain the best pro sports value. MLS likely isn't getting to the $700 a game range until this dog has long stopped hunting.
I think that the club seats are something like $900 per season (or less than $1000, I think). That's for the whole season in the most expensive seats. I sit in the front row and pay less than half of that ($750 for Wizards) for the whole season. It makes me feel good.
I don't mind paying my fair share of construction costs for the basic stadium, but I would object to paying anything toward the construction of club-level (aka exclusionary) "amenities" and for a dominating PA system (God, please spare us from jock rock and from advertisements and promotional announcements made during the course of play.) Let those who would "consume" amenities bear the FULL PRICE of them. Chances are, the clubbers would end up subsidizing the lunatics (maybe our architect posters can chime in here), which of course is fine with me! Let 'em pay for the floor show! Construction costs that I would be willing to pay for (aside from land, pitch and lower deck stands): Bouncing supporter section, Dedicated tailgate area for supporter groups (fixed grills/a couple shelters could be purchased/licensed by groups, or access could be incentive-based, e.g., exceeding the season's goal of a certain number of season tickets), Shawdow-less lighting (unlike Cowlumbus), Flare pit/smoke machine (with color options), Glare-free jumbotron, Large roster displays (like at the Arsenal), Seatless terrace sections, Dedicated on-site storage (good enough for instruments and drum stands) Visiting supporter group section with limited access. Dedicated beer stand for lunatic/bouncing sections, with open sight-lines to the pitch Mature trees in the parking lot Recycling containers. Just my $.02. GM
GM don't forget a security staff that is actually trained! Ok, its not a construction cost, but it is an improvement.
D.C. United is the best bargain of all the local sports teams aside from Maryland basketball, if you can get tickets to MD basketball that is. For $22 you can get great premium seats at DCU games. RFK is one of the best soccer venues sightline-wise in my opinion. Here is what $22 gets you at the other local major pro sports teams: A lower reserved seat in past first of third base at Camden Yards. A very high, nose bleed seat at a Caps or Wizards game. Parking at Capital Centre for a Redskins game. No game ticket as the $nyder-$kins are one of the NFL's highest priced ticket. I used to go to ten to fifteen Orioles/Caps games a season and three to five Redskins games when the team played at RFK Stadium. Ticket prices have soared for Caps, Wizards, Orioles and Redskins the past seven years but United has done a very good job making single game seats and season ticket packages both convenient (flex plans) and affordable. Here's hoping United get their own yard soon!
I have not seen a seating chart of the new stadium for the Galaxy but the new pricing does not seem terrible to me. One thing to note is that their plan for next year includes 20 games and one of them is MLS Cup. Wasn't there also a rumor that they will get the All Star Game?? if that is included then this is not bad at all. Sideline seats $650 = 32.50/game Corner Seats $510 = 25.50/game Upper Deck $450 = 22.50/game End Line $370 = 18.50/game Gals current pricing is $627, $361, $285, and $209 but I am not sure how many games that included. Not as good as RFK current pricing which starts at $13/game for our End Line seats but not terrbile for a nice new stadium. Oh the Club Seaets are $1750/season so I think those people are paaying for their amenities.
It doesn't look too bad from those prices. I agree with various other posters that the ticket prices are a great deal and are a large part of why I go to games. I went to one Wizards game last year and was very high up. The ticket cost me $45. Really not worth it. Redskins? FOrget it. (Plus I'm not going to FedEx)
It is great that the prices are so low, but realistically they're too low. MLS could and should raise prices at all sites, but in order to grow the sport they want full stadia which is conducive to TV exposure. TV exposure, as we all know, is the single biggest reason new fans are gained, despite us dragging friends to games. With ticket prices being the sole source of revenue at most MLS clubs, they desperately want to increase attendance so they can start getting sellouts and raise ticket prices. I agree that the Galaxy's ticket prices are quite low considering that they just received a crown jewel soccer-specific stadium in the center of a huge dollar construction job. I just wish AEG owned RFK, heh. -Tron
Hell yeah, I would love terraces at a new stadium. Except then your not gonna have a "bouncing" supporters section. So what's it gonna be? bouncing seats or crazy terraces?
No wonder Kansas City only draws a few thousand people per game. Those prices have to be the highest in the MLS!
I have asked my sales rep at DC and he said the ticket prices this year (2003) are supposed to stay the the same as last year (2002).
