FROM LA GALAXY WEBSITE: GALAXY - 'QUAKES: THE NEXT CHAPTER FRIDAY IN SANTA BARBARA: The Los Angeles Galaxy and the San Jose Earthquakes, will meet again on Friday, March 12 at 7 pm at Harder Stadium on the campus of the University of California - Santa Barbara. The game features MLS's two fiercest rivals and the only two clubs from the same state in all of Major League Soccer. In the league's first eight years, the clubs have met a grand total of 30 times (regular season), with the Galaxy holding a 18-8-4 advantage in the all-time series. It will also mark the first time that former Galaxy defender and present Earthquakes President and General Manager Alexi Lalas faces his old club in a managerial role. Tickets to the MLS pre-season game are available in advance by calling the UCSB Men's Soccer at (805) 893-3473 or by visiting Soccer Action in Goleta and Soccer Central in downtown Santa Barbara. Prices are as follows: $10 (adults) and $8 (children age 14 and under) in advance and $12 and $8, respectively on the day of the game. On Saturday, channel 22 will discuss the game on Galaxy deportivo (3:00 pm?), but I'm not sure if there will be any video highlights. This will give Sigi a chance to experiment with his line up. Who's all going to the game? I live/work in the 909, so getting there would involve me leaving work at 1pm to make it through Friday LA traffic, and since I normally don't get to work intil 11:30, that could be a problem. Sure would be nice if we could get a web-tracker feed. Anyone able to post updates at the game? GO GALAXY!!! SNUFF THE SMURFS!!! Topper
Aren't you the big cheese? Take the 210, to the 5 north, then jump on the 126 west just past magic mountain, that'll take you to the 101 in Ventura, then head 101 north to Los Carneros, then head south to El Colegio, make a right and head straight to the stadium. You'll be there faster then you can say "$2.29 a gallon!"
The Smurf's put up a very nice matchtracker here: http://www.sjearthquakes.com/matchtracker/index.htm Goals by Ruiz and Torres. Ruiz was very active and had several chances. Osama de Rosario scored a PK after our angry ex-Burn defender pulled him down in the box. Sounds like Herzog fit in nicely, and Grabby had problems taking the corners. All in all, sounds like a nice tune-up match. The Quakes without Donovan are simply a steaming mound of crap. Topper
In related news: Titan Boys Unveil Giant White Flag "We surrender" says Titan leader Ibleedpuke. With 25 minutes left in the game, the gallant Titan Boys, seeing their heros being dominated by Los Angeles once again, leave the stadium in disgrace. "We couldn't take it any longer" Iblledpuke explained. "We really didn't want the LA fans to see us crying again." Titan Boy Badsport added, "We realized that we had devoted our time and emotions to supporting a bunch of two-bit losers. And the tickets were $12! I could have used that money to buy those nice puce chintz kitchen curtains I've had my eye on!" "Here LA was already dominating our guys, and then they bring in a world-class midfielder as a late game substitute. I mean, what did you expect us to do? Stay around and watch the carnage? Get real." As the Quake players were leaving the field, one was heard to mutter "What happened to our fans??? This never happened when I platyed for LA."
Check out this photo for proof! http://www.sjearthquakes.com/the_team/index.htm I wouldn't go that far. They're a solid team that is stacked up top. Prolly the deepest at forward/o-mid in the league. Nice pre-season W for the G's. The Kraut hooking up Ruiz is most encouraging. Torres tearing it up: goosebumps. Beating a vile rival: priceless.
Glad to see that even if it is a preseason game. Reports I've read over at LARS say that Herzog had a nice assist to Ruiz and Grabavoy & Ngwenya continue to impress.
Just for clarification: I am not the leader. And yeah, I was pissed that the the other 60% of us left. They were all going down to Mexico for the weekend and wanted to get there before 2 AM. I stayed. It was pretty pathetic though I agree.
Without Richard Mulrooney, Quacks looked vulnerable defensively. Mulrooney may be more important to them than Landon Abs Donovan.
Sorry about that. And congrats on hanging in there. The other guys should hand in their "ultra" membership cards - they are just pretenders.
I agree about Herzog. I hope to see the Herzog/Ruiz combo hooking up a lot during the season. Grabavoy had some crappy corner kicks, but other then that he was alright. Ngwenya missed on a one on one with Onstad. He tried to chip Onstad and it floated wide right, when we were down 1-0. Not a good way to impress, but he is fast, and I liked his ball handling skills, and he's not afraid to take people on. One thing that I saw in this game that I really hadn't seen for a while is that it seems like we made some adjustments during half time, our guys seemed to be moving better off the ball and creating chances, and it payed off. We could have won 4-1. I heard from one of the Galaxy supporters who spoke with one of the SJ players that Sigi was really p!ssed during half time. How he knows? I don't know, maybe he heard him yelling in the locker rooms... Sadly, the bacon wrapped hot dog hasn't made it up to Santa Barbara yet.
FYP. I expect most Quake fans will tell you the same. We have other forwards than LD, but central midfield depth for us is shallow.
well it's still only a pre-season so it doesn't mean f-all, but boy do i love beating the smurfs, i don't care if it's a game of galaga, dwarf tossing or tense game of clue. oh yeah. i think more than mulroone and more than donovan the person that the smurfs will miss most this year is frankie yallop.
KWHY's Galaxy Deportivo (Saturdays at 3:00pm on ch. 22) had excellent film clips. That was a very nice finish from Pescadito off the pass from Herzog (wearing #10). I'm looking forward to seeing what these guys can do on April 3rd. Topper
60% of 5 is 3. You can say 3 of you left, leaving 2. Don't say 60% to make your group sound big. Oh, were you counting banners? cuz you had like 10 of those. was the assignment for each guy to bring 2? so 5people+10banners = 15.
For the first 35 minutes of the game, everyone was crappy. Later on, his corners and free kicks looked good. Througout pre-season I've been impressed with his set pieces. I was thinking and for the last 2 seasons, our first half has been crap. I think it has to do with our warmups for the game.
The Ultras always bring more banners than people. Kinda like the Smurfs have more trophies than fans. Topper
5-2? Yesterday's news. What have you won lately? Stop living in the past, and just admit that your team was completely and utterly HUMILIATED!!!!!!11111oneoneone [/yeah, I'm plausible]
