They just want to give the rivalry some national exposure by showing the games on ESPN 2 and FSC. This is probably the best rivalry in the MLS right now.
These matches are a gauranteed sellout on a weekday match fixture. This is great idea by the league. As for the fans, they now have time to fit it in their schedule.
TRAFFIC WILL BE A B*TCH ON THOSE THURSDAYS!! I happy about the exposure, but getting to those games will be a challenge.
Apparently most (all?) of the SuperLiga games will be played in July. For the group stage -- if they keep it the same way as last year, with all the games in the US, which seems likely -- I'd expect Chivas USA to play their group games on the following days: Sun 7/13 - first game Wed 7/16 - second game Sun 7/20 - third game With the semfinals being played on Sat 7/26 or Wed 7/30 and the final being played on Wed 7/30 or Wed 8/6.
