Galaxy. I today investigated the prospect of purchasing one of your Season tickets. I moved to the US from England on January 10th, 2007, having decided ahead of time that as I would be a good, loyal, "local team" supporter. I (perhaps unfairly) viewed the whole Chivas USA thing with a lot of cynicism. As a lifelong Man U fan who has sat in the Stretford End, I would find it crass, cheesey and unashamedly commercial for a Red Devils USA to be established in say, Chicago, and felt the same went for a major Mexican team so steeped in tradition. So, if I was going to watch anyone, it was going to be Galaxy. Then, about a week or two after I land here, Beckham follows me. All hell breaks loose and it becomes horrendously difficult to get anything like a reasonably priced Galaxy ticket. I finally manage to see them play at what seems like a decent rate, when I get a ticket for the Chivas USA game. This is of course because Chivas (despite playing at the same stadium) charge much less for tickets and were the designated home team that night. So fast forward to the build-up to the 2008 season and that aforementioned season ticket. I look into it, trying to be ahead of the game this year. The price: $3,300 for the most expensive ticket. Price for the same Chivas USA season ticket: about $1,200 for the same standard. Okay, admittedly, no Beckham, no world-reknowned marquee star, much less demand, cheaper tickets. But how about Manchester United. They had Beckham when he was at his very best. A plethora of world-reknowned marquee stars. 330 Million fans worldwide (5% of the worlds population no less). Price for the most espensive season ticket: Just under $1,700. Granted, the demand is such that you have to go on a long waiting list for one, but even so.... I'm not having a go at the team, the manager, the players, but I am annoyed at the suits who are basically taking advantage of potential footy fans who don't know any better. The Galaxy didn't even effectively compete last term. Don't get me wrong - where I come from, you choose a team and it's for life so I'll continue to follow their fortunes, but on principal it will mostly be from my armchair. Anyone else agree?
I came very close to getting season tickets this year, but it didn't seem like I'd save any money buying the package. I'll just pick the games that suit me scream at my TV for the others.
I can't really agree. I mean, it's not like there aren't reasonably priced season tickets available. There are only 27,000 seats available so it doesn't shock me that some are very expensive to cater to those for whom money is no object. If you want a season seat they can be had for $400 or so. It's not like there are any bad seats in the stadium anyway.
adding to that watching the TV is not the same the stadium experience is great, and plus the best thing with season tickets, is payment plan sp you dont feel the huge pinch
You don't have to get the most expensive ticket, as others have said. Would you rather eat prawn sandwiches or bacon-wrapped hot dogs? And I just looked and Man U's ticket prices, and the lowest are still $900/seat, which is a lot more than the Galaxy's lowest. So basically at Old Trafford, the lower and middle classes subsidize the rich, whereas at HDC, the rich cover the regular folks. I'll let you decide which is fairer.
You must mean $90 per game! Anyways, that is in pounds right? The price would just be $45 if our money was valued the same, which is high for MLS but not ManU!
I think it is a reasonable price. I have 2 midfield seats in 131 at about $1700/season. Last year, I sold the Chealsea match and one or two other league matches on stubhub.com. I made about $600 back and was still able to enjoy the season with family and friends. Also, I think there is an effort to give more quality STH perks. The open practice today was one example. Last year, I went to the Chelsea/Galaxy practice. Honestly, if I would have sold a few other games on the nights I was away instead of giving them away, I probably could have dropped my costs to under $1000. I'm a native Angeleno and grew up a few miles from the Forum. I've been to plenty of Laker games but there is no way you're going to be a Laker STH for these prices and not be watching from the parking lot. I also like the idea of being a STH and being able to make it a family tradition for my 1 yr old.
If something is too pricey, don't buy it. Simple as that. When people stop buying, the prices will drop. Keep an eye on these boards and you'll find some pregame ticket deals, too. I've literally given away tickets when I couldn't make a game. I've got two season seats in section 102, behind the south goal for about $1000.00. It's still a terrific view. I'll save a few bucks selling off a game or two, showing up early enough to park for free on occasion and ALWAYS skipping the overpriced, highly-mediocre HDC concessions. OF course, I blow some of that savings splurging on a bacon-wrapped hot dog or two every year
OK, on reflection I jumped the gun slightly. I had figured prices would be better this year after basically being quoted $75-$125 per game on ticket master all last year. I believe Chivas was $45. Man U used to be around $50 (US dollars - it was about 25 pounds). When I saw the $3,300 dollars I jumped to a conclusion. I've never held a season ticket at OT. They're like gold-dust. Phenomenal atmosphere though (though from Fergie's outburst this season, it seems that might be less consistent than it once was).
I don't live in SoCal so I don't buy season tickets. I still go to a lot of games so I've sat just about everywhere over time. Believe me there are no bad seats.
You do realize the $3300 is for Fieldside seating, right? Courtside seats at Lakers games go for thousands of dollars per game. Getting a whole season for three thousand is a great deal comparatively. The Fieldside seats are basically on the field! (not in the stands) They're not really normal seats. And yes, they even have them at Crew Stadium, $1800 per seat. I'd love to know if they've even sold a single one! (The people you see in the pic above did not pay $1800.) The seats you want are what the Galaxy calls "Sideline" seats. Or whatever location in the stadium you think looks good.
If money is really an issue, buy tickets for games you think will be good. I would get season tickets again if we played at the Rose Bowl, but everyone here keeps telling me it wont happen (ok ok I get it, I get it!)... so I end up buying tickets to various games that appeal to me. This works better for my schedule and before the games come up I can find out who wants to go. Sometimes I buy two tickets, sometimes 10 tickets. I look at it like this. Id rather have the freedom to pick and choose which games I want and instead of me sitting in the stands every single game, I can use that money I would have used for season tickets, to bring friends along who might never have been to a game before. Ive converted a few people into soccer fans this way for sure. The home opener is a must for me. Ive never missed one. My tickets have already been ordered. I used to go to all the 4th of July games, but havent in recent years... I dont think HDC can match what the Rose Bowl used to do for fireworks. Other games against SJ or NYRB or Chivas are great to go to as well. If money is an issue and you cant fork over the $980 a ticket, then I recommend the 200 level for $640 a ticket. Not bad at all. I didnt realize the prices were so good for the 200 level hhhmmmmmm. 200 level is still like the sidelines to me and you still feel close to the field.
TO be accurate, fieldside seats at Galaxy really ARE director's chairs ON the sideline. You are ON the turf and you have a secret (and free) open bar called Underground 202. $3300 for all you can drink all year? I'd use that up in three games.... Tommy Mack LARS PS: Best seats are right above $500 for the year with the LA Riot Squad supporter's group.
If money is truly an issue there are still some seats in the wide 200 level available for $250; yes, that comes out to $12.50 per game. -Steve
Steve, right before I saw you today a Galaxy rep told me there were no more 200 level wide's left. I'm wondering what is correct? Good to see you, btw.
I may be wrong, but I believe that there were still seats in the 2 wide sections with cards on them at the end of the day, I know that the sheets that were handed out said "sold out" and there were "temp" reps there. The reps are not encouraged (or is that encouraged not...) to sell these seats...again if there is really a true $ issue you may be able to get a couple of these seats; call on Monday. Steve
btw, chivas seats are cheap, because they can't sell them. when they start filling the stadium beyond 40% capacity on a regular basis watch for their prices to start climbing. of course you're in for a long, long wait.
Yeah but if you use it for TP then it gets "in your blood" and I think you need to take penicillin to get rid of it.
i have a question? is their a partial season package of games you can attend as opposed to being a full season ticket holder? maybe a 5 game pack where you can select which games you can attend? also if they do what is the price range of such a deal? would appreciate any feedback on these questions.
yeah there is a 6 game flexi-pack. my family got it last season. You get to pick any 6 games you want, and can get the same seats for all games or different seats or different numbers of seats if you want. I think the price is similar to just the face value of the tickets, but it might be a little less, and you get the benefit of getting your tickets before some games go on sale for single games. I recommend it, we'll probably do the same thing again this year. Its good for me because I am only in LA for the summer, so i can pick six games from the summer.
thanks for the response. does having a 6 game flex package allow first dibs on getting tickets for the mls cup, which is at the home depot center this year or is that reserved for full season ticket holders?
