i would love to see hong on an mls team, but after seeing the galaxy backline this year, i'd have to say that they don't need him. lalas, cailiff, and marshall did a great job. the galaxy should've pursued lee yong-pyo, yoon jong-hwan, or yoo sang-chul.

Does this open the door for Lalas to leave? Not that I want him to go at all!

I'm thinking it will give Peter more room to move forward. Sigi started the season with 4 at the back, then moved to 3. Could he be thinking of a 4 man backline again? EZ and Tyrone in the mid? More rest of Cien (if he's still playing)

Lots of options...lots of depth...gotta love it. :)

I wonder how many Korean businesses will buy seats in the new stadium with this announcement. Generally a very loyal group.

Doesn't Earnie Stewart also want to play for LA? If that happens the team will be pretty stacked. I'd think Cienfuegos would then retire if that was the case. Salary cap issues?

Exactly what I was thinking. If this doesn't sell some season tickets, nothing will.

Replacement for Vanney. Still think I'd prefer a healthy Vanney but you can't say we are getting richer. Well, you can but I won't listen. :p

Sure the Galaxy is going to have to trade away somone for this. I don't see how they'll stay under the salary cap otherwise.

I don't remember where i read it, but Stewart has some sort of tie to Dallas (might just be his family's favorite NFL team)..

Next thing you know, they will rig the draft so they can get Patrick Ewing. :)

Here's where you lose me. When DC and Chicago did well, they (we) ran into salary cap problems, not because of additions, but because our young Americans deserved, and got raises. We couldn't replace one salary with a comparable salary.

If it were simply replacing parts, does that mean that Califf, Elliot, Victorine etc. haven't gotten significant raises. How about Ruiz? I would think that what ever cap space LA might miraculously have would go into an increase in his salary.

I'm not a conspiracy guy, and I haven't complained about our cap woes, but it does seem like NY, LA and NE have all been able to make countless moves without the words "salary cap" ever coming into play.

Is this the 33 year old (or older) South Korean defender that has been talked about for some time.

    An aging, foreign, high-priced defender?

If so, you can have him and good luck to you.

Elliott and Hendrickson are the only players to have been given new contracts this year. The rest are still under contract through at least the end of the '03 season.

As for the cap, I've a feeling that a cut will be made, my gut feeling is that Cien is that cut. He's not playing much and he's very close to retirement. He's hardly making league minimum. Also, I've a feeling that Hong isn't asking for a great deal of money either. He's wanted to come to LA for a while now and has family here.

Honest, the idea that LA dumps Cien's salary and give it to Hong doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility here.

Of course, none of us really know any of the info in these contracts or what Sigi has planed with Cien so this is all idle speculation but after what happened when we got El Divadore I'm confident Hamilton won't allow the team to get into that kind of situation again.

I believe LA has been awarded the MLS Cup and All Star game for next year. MLS will sell more tickets if LA makes it to the finals and plays in front of a home crowd.
    Need I say more?

You do know the capacity, overflowing, for the stadium is 27,000? They'd sell all the tickets no matter what.

You didn't really need to say anything at all. LA is guaranteed to sell out the MLS Cup and the All Star game no matter what.

It's a smaller stadium, and it's brand spanking new.

EDIT: Damn, Thomas got crapped on three times in two minutes.
