Having been around the BigSoccer world for some time, one of the things that truly irks me is when someone writes, "There is no unifying color in the stands at Galaxy games." Well, no shit, Sherlock. And the main reason for this is that AEG has decided to redesign our official home jerseys every few years. So here, for your enjoyment, is a graphic example of the ever-changing history of the LA Galaxy Jersey (with an extra shirt thrown in that is worn by a few hundred people at the HDC): http://tommymack.com/jerseys.jpg Tommy Mack LA Riot Squad
The Galaxy F.O. worst fear realized: TMack has cloned himself. The good news is that the jerseys have improved, for the most part, over time...
Outstanding. Or rather, out-out-out-out-out-out-outstanding. One of my favorites not shown is the white away version of the solid green shirt (third from left) that had "Los Angeles" across the front.
Don't a lot of "big time" teams redisign their jersey almost every year? Last year at the Galaxy v. Big Chivas game, I noticed there were dozens of different designs, including a Christmas-themed version. Here's the history of Portsmouth's kit at Historical Football Kits. I suppose that you could say that they keep the same general design (blue and white), while only changing a few details every two years or so.
Mexican teams seem to change very frequently, especially with sponsors, except for Pachuca and (obviously) Cruz Azul.
Yeah but seems like some maintain identity even though the colors change a little. For instance I've seen the Chivas Mexico jersey in many color shades too but they're still the Rayadas, red and white stripes officially. They move them around for the billboards though. Santos Laguna have always had horizontal green stripes and Toluca has always worn red, but yeah the sponsors and shapes change every year to make a new profit. Also, the reason there's so many variations of Mexican team jerseys is because the majority you see around are "chafa's" or fakes. I don't think atletica makes an official chivas onesie but you can buy em. Great illustration though- no brand recognition at all.
The different jerseys over time are nice because, like the layers of sediment on an archelogical exbidition, they allow the keen-eyed observer to judge when the wearer was elected to the promised land. That hideous verticle striped monstrosity lets me know that you're born-again hard. Herbalife leads me to suspect that you're a johnny-come-lately.
Yesterday was Mardi-Gras. I had nothing that was "over-the-top" enough to match the festive atmosphere I wanted because I wanted something gaudy, weirdly designed, and made people think I was drunk. I wore the 1996 Galaxy jersey. It worked. Tommy Mack LARS
it would be nice if we just kept at least one unifying color plus soccer moms cant mismatch their fanny packs with stripes
No way, those jerseys have to be painted on, either that or Blatter finally got his way and FIFA is now trying to attract a larger male audience by adding nipples and short shorts to female kits http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=288684&cc=5901
damn look at the Abby Wambach impersonators ruthless Australian sailor tattoo (spell check), now thats a women (If no one had told me this was basketball I would of thought they were cyclists or something).
We need an LAG 2008 calendar with painted historical LAG jerseys. You can trust me, Im a professional photographer.
